Should Americans take any notice of what the rest of the planet thinks of them?

Oh that reminds me; I just got copy of Critical Assembly. If my model rocketeer friends bring chips at the next meeting we might be able to arrange something for you.

Somehow I doubt we have much to worry about.

The money is running out. We'll be less interventionist over time. As the global economy realigns, a lot of things will slowly work themselves out.

I'd imagine America's image will improve at exactly the same rate we fall in primacy over the next half of a century. Eventually, China and India will be the big kids on the block and will face a corresponding level of attention and criticism.

Americans will likely inherit the same feeling of bitterness that England felt after the fall of their empire.

You're one of probably hundreds of millions who think that the US is a stain on the planet. But if we decline and China is running the show, I think you'll miss us.

Europe doesn't like us much now, but they sure loved us in 1944. When there is no one trying to keep the planet safe you'll realize how vulnerable a small nation can be in an era of global chaos.

    Enjoy the future!

New Zealand has a huge alcohol and drug problem, please take that into consideration.

It is good for the US and all nations to have a good reputation internationally.
It is called soft power and this is much more powerful than hard power.

The US can gain so much more by being intelligent and using the good that comes from the US, rather than bombing people and acting like meatheads.

Kennedy knew this, but because the defence industry is so powerful in the US, he was murdered. Soft power does not benefit the defence industry moguls.

    Hello Sisyphus,

A famous Renaissance era Italian once said it is better to be feared than loved. It is your Western-centric sensibilities that are doomed. A new world has been born. It is not a world conducive to the spread of Western conceits. Besides, America as you have known it is through. Something wicked this way walks.

Are the Chinese loved by the Vietnamese? Do the South Koreans think highly of the Chinese? Do the Japanese hold the Chinese in high esteem?

No. The Vietnamese, South Koreans and Japanese fear the Chinese. And with good reason.

Why should New Zealand exist as an independent state instead of as a Chinese satrapy? I can't think of a single reason why New Zealanders should have their own independent country.

Terribly, however, that does not answer the question.

    ^^^

Could you please respond to my question.

I thought I did and you'd get it. But, if you need me to spell it out for you. Only loser countries need bailouts from other countries. Sorry, you made me spell it out for you.

That's an incredibly arrogant and offensive statement. I hope you don't really mean that. It's also ironic, considering your nation relies on borrowed money to keep itself going.

Also, who are you to judge who's a loser and who's not?

Of course I spend my every waking hour worrying about some weirdo in new sheepland who doesn't like us.

And yet, he so desperately seeks attention from us. Poor conflicted idiot.

With all due respect, we are not. We are getting in the hole deeper every day. Our leaders don't take it seriously, and Mr. Obama wants to tax and spend like a crazy person.

It's like giving unlimited credit to a junky.

No. But that's not what I'm talking about anyway. I'm saying we're getting worse in debt and our elected officials aren't really taking it seriously.

They still want to keep this and that and this and that. We can't even get rid of taxpayer support for NPR !!!!

I am simply alerting you to ideas that are no doubt shared by millions of Americans who, for obvious reasons, are less willing than I to contest your "special" view of the world.
