Have you really looked? This is mainstream America, not a bunch of kids. You say get a job. FYI, stoopid, jobs don't exist. And don't start your sh!t about Mickey D's. Those jobs are gone to anyone with any semblance of education or work experience. I tried myself. I'm "over qualified." The system is broken. If you can't see that, well, don't flatulate. Where your head is at, you'll break your eardrums.

But keep up the good work, shining a light on these idiots can only benefit our side in 2012. ;)

Right now I don't care about the 2012 elections. I don't believe an election that's more than a year away yet is the first thing on most people's minds right now. The first thing on their minds is how they'll survive that long.

As far as what our "specific" ideas are for changing this country ourselves, that's the conversation we're having right now. There are lots of different views that are part of this movement. Finding specific solutions of our own is part of what this movement is about. But we're not going to have this movement channeled into being simply part of anyone's election campaign or reform drive. We want real change and we know it's got to come from us, the people. On that much most of us anyway are decided.

Yes, the youth are leading this movement. Contempt for the youth and youthful habits is an annoying response and one that's not particularly popular, as highlighted in the OP. In every society and within every demographic group, the youth are always the advance guard of change. And change is something we definitely need right now. Why not be part of this movement and this conversation rather than just an irritating Internet mudslinger without a point?

Polly, you're not going to change anything by sitting around in a park and smoking pot and pooping on police cars.

If you want to make a change, start with yourself. Get a good education, get some valuable skills, and then get a good paying job. Or start a business.

My paycheck supports myself, my wife, and three children. So that's five people dependent on me.

How many people are dependent on you? My guess is you're not even supporting yourself, but are still living with your parents.

I give it a little more time before Occupy Wall Street co-opts the police union like have been doing with other unions. Then, the only people to stop them will be the military, and from there it could become a peaceful protest to a violent movement. But, this was already part of the bigger global plan anyway.

History has shown that youth-led movements accomplish nothing, and may even do damage to their cause.

The youth-led anti-war movement demonstrated against the Vietnam War for years. Instead of causing a pull-out, the demonstrations caused a backlash of voters and Richard Nixon was elected, who kept the war going until 1973.

I was viewing a CBS newssite and the commentary was overwhelmingly negative toward OWS -- and this is NOT a conservative website. Stories of filthy conditions, men pooping on police cars, plus the ridiculous signs you are carrying, are taking a toll on your movement's credibility.

Most people my age (mid-fourties) don't think that young people have the life experience to form opinions that are worthy of listening to. All you know is the propaganda that your liberal professors have taught you. You have yet to earn a real paycheck and struggle with paying bills and supporting children.

My advice to you is to go home, go back to your classes, and get your college degree so you can move on to adulthood.

Even if you were right about me there on all counts (...and you're wrong on all counts...), what difference would it make in terms of the validity of the OWS movement? This is a great and pointless example of that annoying contempt for the youth and stereotypical youthful habits I was just speaking of.

If you must know (and you don't need to), I have literally never smoked anything in my life, have a college degree, and have lived independently since age 18 (and I am now 27). But again, even if none of that were the case, would it make the reality of declining living standards in this country at the behest of a financial oligarchy any less real?

Living standards in this country are not declining. I do not know why people believe that. Have you ever looked at the typical house built after World War II? They are tiny, have two bedrooms and one bathroom for the whole family to share. What that meant is the typical American family had all 3-4 kids in one bedroom.

Also, the family had one car, which Dad drove to work. Mom did not have a car, and many women did not even know how to drive. My grandmother lived to her 90's and never obtained a drivers' license.

There was one telephone in the house, and it was a big black bulky object that was attached firmly to the wall. You could not get any other shape or color of phone.

There was one TV in the house and it was a giant contraption with a tiny black-and-white screen.

When my father was a boy, his family had no refrigerator, no dishwasher, no garbage disposal, no washing machine, no dryer. All these things were introduced in the 1950's.

There were no cell phones, no game consoles, no PCs, no fax machines, no twitter, no facebook, no internet.

Liberal propaganda has made people forget reality, which is that standard of living has gone up continuously ever since the beginning of the industrial age and is advancing even faster during the information age.

What you are rebelling against is not even truth. It is lies fed to you by the liberal media and your liberal professors to turn you against capitalism, the greatest economic system ever devised by man.

When the fascists comeout from the woodwork to counterbalance the communist influenced Occupy Wall Street. That is when it will get all interesting, because America was based on having both sides give their opinions. Not one or the other.

If you were comparing the living standards between now and 30 plus years ago, You would have a great point. But you should also look at living standards just within the last 5-10 years.

Cost of things such as healthcare, gas, food, etc. are going up, In some cases significantly. Meanwhile, Many employees are finding their wages stagnating. They are not getting any raises, Or the raises they get are not keeping up with inflation. The result is that more and more money is required to pay for the same things they have always had before.

Either the employee will need to work more and more to maintain their standard of living, Or they will have to cut back on their expenses. I can't speak for others, But I do not have a lot of money for luxuries, Most of my paycheck goes to food, shelter, healthcare, etc. I loathe the thought I may have to work just to survive with no pleasure or happiness in my life. Then I see the how rich the rich people are, and see and read stories about how they have exploited or cheated their way to riches, And it really burns me up. And no, Just because the businesses are not doing something explicitly illegal does not mean what they are doing is moral.

I hope things do not get bad to the point of bloody revolution, I truly do. But someone, Some group is going to have to cut back on their greed before things get too bad to reverse. And I'm not certain if businesses and the rich will compromise. I think they believe they can out-weather the protests and crush any thought of changing the laws to benefit the people en masse. It's dangerous times we live in.

    Thank you for your time.

Well, when you start your bloody revolution I will oppose you to the last breath of my body. I am not interested in living under a tyranny, even the tyranny of the mob.

If that's how you truly feel, And you are not willing to compromise, So be it.

The poor have the numbers, You will lose.

Does your life, And the lives of family and close friends means nothing to you? Is your material wealth really worth so much?

And tyranny? What about the tyranny of the big businesses that have the government in their pocket exploiting the common worker? Is tyranny ok when it benefits you, But not ok when it does not benefit you?

    Thank you for your time.

i support some of the ideas but in the long run it will make no difference unless you are better organized , I also think sooner or later there will be violence and the OWS bunch will be on the receiving end of a taser or bullets , be careful

It was 10 years ago the first iPod was introduced, and four for the first iPhone. Tesla rolled out the first production electric car in 2008. Cell phones are ubiquitous, HDTV is here, Fiber Optic internet access in most major cities, the growth of city wide WiFi networks... in Sept 2010 Adobe announced one third of the power to their corporate offices was being supplied by American made solid fuel cell energy servers.

What are those "many employees" doing? Are they offering more value than they did 5, 10 or 30 years ago? The standard of living has increased in America in the last 30 and in the last 10 years. A smaller and smaller minority of Americans are responsible for that more. Why is it unreasonable to expect each of us to find ways to add to that value we all seem to believe we should share?

You're actually threatening me, aren't you? You're actually threatening to do violence to me and my family.

Madness has possessed you and I have no doubt this will have a bad end if you continue down this path.

Threatening you, Um, No. I personally believe in violence as a last resort.

But changing the laws to require businesses to pay their workers a living wage? Yes.

Changing laws to eliminate businesses using loopholes and other ways to cheat the system while at the same time lowering the tax rate businesses pay? Yes.

Changing laws to make sure that people using social welfare systems genuinely need the help and that they work their way out of needing the help as quickly as possible? Yes.

As hard as it may be for you to believe, I'm pretty central in my views regarding the economy. I know there are a large group of welfare recipients abusing the system, And I'd like to see that end. I'd like to see people taking more responsibility for their lives and avoiding the obvious mistakes that may make their lives harder, Such as having children they cannot afford, Or buying that PS3 when they need the money to eat. What I'd also like to see end are businesses using ANY means at their disposal to increase profits, at the expense of the livelihood of their employees. I'd like to see both the employee and the employer have EQUAL say over what the employees work is worth. I'd like to see us try to get the rest of the planet on board with this as well, To avoid companies outsourcing their jobs to exploit slave labor conditions to make profit.

If businesses can lobby government to enact laws that allow them to profit at the expense of the common American, Then I feel the common American should also be allowed to do what is needed to enact their views at the expense of the business.

What many like you propose is more of the same. More of the same is not working for me, The common american. The ideas to expand business at the expense of workplace regulations like minimum wage, safety regs, etc. only serve to make more profits to the employer at the expense of the employee.

    Thank you for your time.

    Soros' Tools for Change.
    Getting paid to "Protest".
Their final result will be more screws to the folks who actually work for a living.

Are you part of this protest? Do you show up after work? Or are you on vacation? I am very curious how an independent person...a person who has to make a living...can live for weeks in a park.

And the final question...how can a person chooses to live in a park, accept free food, use other people's bathrooms..and expect OTHER people to raise their standard of living?
