We get to stay, in case anyone was interested in our fate after the recent eviction threat! 5,000 people showing up to resist makes a difference! They always say that we have no demands, as if we're supposed to. That's not the plan. This isn't about petitioning the government for a redress of grievances. People here (most people here anyway) are past that point. They've given up on the two-party system. Our aim here is to start a movement toward the aim of redressing issues ourselves. So that's why we have no central demands. There aren't going to be any either. This survey suggests that Occupy Wall Street is more popular than President Obama and twice as popular as the Tea Party movement, enjoying the support of 54 percent of the U.S. population.
Cool. As a suggestion, I propose more college students keep their fellow college students informed by posting fliers on the public information boards around their campus's as well as important links to check out to get involved. I have had a bit of luck in getting people to join Occupy Michigan this way. Keep it up.
It's not hard to be more popular than Obama. Anyone should see the two party system is a joke; just look at the last 11 years. Thanks for the update. Good luck Polly, keep us posted with what's going on.
Best wishes from Tahrir Square in Egypt from this Egyptian. Peaceful Peaceful. But don't get too excited about this victory. It was just a clean up. Wait till the tear gas starts flying. You wont get anything by sitting eating sandwiches and setting up stalls. You have to move up gears every single day with demands. This is not a picnic and shouldn't look like one or some kind of festival. Which it looks like on TV. As long as it resembles a festival the authorities are not going to do a thing believe me. You need to leave the park and spread out and truly occupy. All you are doing now is having a big outdoor picnic. You are not doing what your posters and banners say. You are not occupying anything or anywhere yet. When this symbol was burned down then Egyptians knew they were fighting to win. There was no going back. It was fight to win. When Wall St if that is your grievance looks like this then you will be ready to say you occupied Wall St. You took control. Good luck anyway
Two partY system ? HMMMM.. from over here its looked for many years as just two halfs of the same Party. but then what do we know. (wink) POWER TO THE PEOPLE. ....cheers. ,
Get a job, and a haircut while you're at it. Fiscal Conservatives were against Corporate / Bank bailouts...and showed dissent then. The mantra then was "let them fail"..and it was the Leftists who supported Obama's continuation of TARP and bank bailouts... Where were the "occupiers of Wall Street" at that time? It's a fad...you're part of a fad... A bunch of unemployed and under-employed 20 somethings sit around, smoke dope and sleep on the sidewalk... the endeavor all amounting to naught, fogotten by the public by Thanksgiving.
Evidently nothing. That's why we're ignored; and the two-halfs of the same Party love them for it. Cheers
Yes, you all are real pillars of society. Tell me, does it interest you at all that you are interfering with the rights of others with your sex, drugs, and drumming? Not to mention the stence.
Yes, you do, dear, and be sure to thank the evil corporation and public officials who made that possible. It's not hard to decipher the "central demands" of your "movement", Polly. It's not exactly a new one.
Hang in there Sister! There's strength in numbers and it can only grow as time goes on. I believe what you and the other thousands of people are doing is the best thing for America.
It is? And what would that be specifically? What is it that the tea party was doing that was not for Americans?
