I like the British accent. Mostly because I like working with the RAF and they always found a way to have beer in Afghanistan. My personal preferences:

Generic American accent (West Coast and Upper Midwest)
    New England accent
    Canadian
    British
    Australian
    Scottish
    German
    Irish
    American Southern accent
    French

It looks like I am biased towards the West and I may be. I am originally from Central Asia and still have a slight accent. I have been trying to get rid of it for years and it will just not completely disappear. It is an ugly combination of mostly Russian and some Chinese elements. Ugh. I am not very fond of accents of the East.

As for the Italian accent, after dealing with Italians while deployed, I cannot stand it. They are impossible to understand over the radio.

Perfect English is spoken, so it is said...in Nebraska USA

No accent of any sort...just flat Mid-Western as God intended English to be spoken.

I like all different accents. I think it's pretty funny that New Jersey made the list for men.
I guess I'm immune to the seductive power of the NJ accent

I'm sorry...it didn't sound like it but I was actually joking. I would never consider Oklahoma "Mid-Western".

I had a conversation with somebody who came from Kansas to Oklahoma as did I ....and we were amazed at the culture difference in a three hours drive.

We decided that at some point you cross a southern...not a state border.

    The butler accent, yes.

It's an interesting article. If your country were to become the English language media Mecca, perhaps what Americans think would become less important and what expatriate Thais think would become more so. I wouldn't hold my breath for that, though.

I agree. Southern MO has always seemed more Southern than Midwestern to me... Arkansas and Oklahoma for sure. I really enjoyed Oklahoma.

When I was a kid, we moved from Nevada to Tennessee. Talk about a shock! It was a billion-fold improvement... the people, the environment... everything.

If 'British' is AN accent, it must by definition include 'Scottish'. If, however, it's one of the (many - a Geordie sounds nothing at all like someone from the Westcountry!) English accents being referred to as 'British', it would not, of course, but I'd then have to ask why someone would have particuler problem with the (or 'a' - there are several distinct ones) Welsh accent?!

This, for example, is a lovely accent, and nothing like RP:

Although it's not technically 'British' as such, I could also ask what is wrong with the Northern Ireland accent, obviously (although I could also answer that one myself by suggesting looking up 'Rev Ian Paisley' on youtube - I'm sure there are more pleasant NI accents than his, though!).

A bit of Northern Ireland from Christine Bleakley, the presenter Alex Jones stood in for. Adrian Chiles is from Birmingham in the British midlands.

Yes, I can confirm this, I noticed when I lived in Yorkshire, many can tell the town of the speaker, i.e. a "Skipton accent".

I adapt certain English-accent words in my American talk. One of my favorites is how Brits say "year". Think ST:TNG Picard- a well spoken man.

They say it in lots of different ways, depending (mostly) on where they come from!

What do you mean with strong?

And Italian, Spanish, French and Russian accents are really different between them. No similiarities. Mainly the last one.
