Way to take your ball and go home Mr. Boehner.

Remember, the whole world is watching. . . er . . . at least trying to watch.

It's amazing. I don't know why Boner is protesting so much? We all know he's gonna fold. He does the same thing everytime, has his little temper tantrum and then capitulates.

    1. Think Progress is NOT a valid source.
    2. Newsflash: The House of Representatives already passed a Payroll Tax Cut... and they did it before the Senate... and they passed it for 1 full year!

Why is Think Progress NOT reporting that? Why is the National (Democratic Party) Media also devoid of any real reporting on it too?

The democrats want a two month extension, but the speaker is demanding a full year. These little extensions are frankly getting annoying, when everyone on either side would agree that a middle income tax raise wouldn't be the best idea right now. I will say I blame BOTH sides for trying to stick a bunch of extra things on one bill to pass personal agendas, but still. I think congress should have to take things like that one at a time, so there isn't any of that piggybacking crap.

republicans are SO committed to the one year extension, that they REFUSE to give a 2 month extension as a show of their commitment.

A payroll tax cut with about 1000 other earmarks on it including the Keystone Pipeline.

Anyone who knows anything about politics knows this was pure posturing and that the bill had no chance.

If the republicans are commited to payroll tax cut, then why not just vote on it and not load up the bill with poisonous BS.

The keystone pipeline thing should have been passed already too. It isnt doing any harm to anything, and will create economy.

    hmmm

common sense folks want 12 months

    gamesters want 2 months

that means there is a 10 month gap

I guess they should just vote for 7 months and call it done

They have already done "due diligence" it has been on the 'menu' so to speak for quite a while now. The impact will be very low, and mostly temporary anyway.

So, in line with your comment about piggy-backing, I would assume you would prefer they vote on the pipeline separately from the payroll tax?

On it's own merit as well....

Yes, I would prefer it. And I think if they would stop trying to piggyback it on stuff and talked seriously about it, that it could pass of its own merit. People lose alot of respect for an idea when it is piggybacked, IMO.

Why burden businesses with needless changes by going 2 months? What is the benefit?

Gee, Didn't they do that last year 3-4 times, wasn't that a compromise? Also the same was done for the debt, didn't they compromise then? Maybe it is time for the senate to do their job by passing a budget!!!! One that can last for at least a year! That is what they get paid for!

    Ah hypocrisy. That's our Dasein.

President Barack Obama, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) are planning plenty of health care action in closed-door meetings at the White House today, but there are no lights or cameras.

Now, C-SPAN is calling for the latter.

In a letter to congressional leadership dated December 30, 2009, C-SPAN wrote:

As your respective chambers work to reconcile the differences between the House and Senate health care bills, C-SPAN requests that you open all important negotiations, including any conference committee meetings, to electronic media coverage.

C-SPAN noted that it is willing to commit resources to cover all negotiations and that, to date, it has televised hundreds of hours of committee hearings for public access. More importantly, the network called on the President and congressional leadership to live up to their commitment to transparency:

President Obama, Senate and House leaders, many of your rank-and-file members, and the nation’s editorial pages have all talked about the value of transparent discussions on reforming the nation’s health care system. Now that the process moves to the critical stage of reconciliation between the Chambers, we respectfully request that you allow the public full access, through television, to legislation that will affect the lives of every single American.

Even the mainstream media are picking up on this salient point. From an ABC News report:

The C-SPAN television network is calling on congressional leaders to open health care talks to cameras — something President Barack Obama promised as a candidate.

Instead the most critical negotiations on Obama’s health plan have taken place behind closed doors, as Republicans repeatedly point out…

Obama pledged during a presidential debate in January 2008 that he would be “bringing all parties together, and broadcasting those negotiations on C-SPAN so that the American people can see what the choices are.”

It’s high time he kept his pledge.

    http://blog.heritage.org/2010/01/05/knock-knock-whos-there-its-c-span-mr-president/

And of course he never did.

    Hypocritical outrage FAIL.

It seems appropriate that conducting political theater prompts one (someone in the Speaker's office) to lower the curtain (cut-the TV feed) at a time of their convenience.
