During Fox News’ South Carolina debate, Texas Governor Rick Perry suggested it might be time for Turkey to be kicked out of NATO, saying the country was being ruled by what many would perceive to be Islamic terrorists. Perry’s response might surprise many, as Turkey is a longstanding US ally in NATO, and a critical diplomatic partner engaged in “a working relationship that is one of the most important but least discussed developments shaping (2011)’s change in the Arab world.”

Moderator Bret Baier asked the Republican hopeful about the country’s Islamist governing party, and outlined many of the problems going on in the nation, including a high murder rate among women, lessening press freedom, and military issues in the region. “Do you believe Turkey still belongs in NATO?”

“Obviously when you have a country that is being ruled by what many would perceive to be Islamic terrorists, when you start seeing that type of activity against their own citizens, then, yes,” Perry boldly proclaimed. “Not only is it time for us to have a conversation about whether or not they belong to be in NATO but it’s time for the United States, when we look at their foreign aid, to go to zero with it.”

Well, well, that's one thing that I can agree with on Perry's behalf. Otherwise, nothing else he has on his plate is edible at all.

Well in the frist place these smugglers weren't stateless, they were Iraqi Kurds, who are not stateless. Secondly it was a mistake to kill them and the Turks apologized. Thirdly the soldiers killed in Pakistan were allies of the U.S. making their accident the same as Turkeys. Now if you want to get to the real issue and that is Kurdish terrorist infiltrators into Turkey, Turkey has good reason to kill them. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

It just shows how desperate rick perry is. Claiming they would kick turkey out of NATO shows how little he knows of the current geopolitical climate in the middle east.

If america and Iran ever go to war, America needs access to the NATO bases in Turkey.

This guy is a dead set fool.

Hate to break the news to you alan121210 you wont get Kurdish independence in turkey. Not the way things are playing out. The Kurds are better off helping to topple Assad and than Iran. At the very least they might get new independence from those countries with northern Iraq to form Kurdistan.

Cool your jets Yosemite Sam! From Al Jazeera:
Were they or were they not smugglers?

Our bloodsucking nation will not collapse any time soon, certainly not before you kick the bucket.

I can see how you think the Kurds fight for independence is righteous, but as a zealot of a cause you are clearly myopically biased.

He is a Republican presidential hopeful? Well, I won’t hold that against him. The next one just HAS to be better than Dubya. Oh, he withdrew his candidature? And now he supports Newt Gingrich? Well, his sense of reality score has just plummeted. Gingrich is as uninformed about international affairs as a grub under a log in my yard, as I showed in a post a few weeks ago. Obama outscores him by three orders of magnitude in knowledge, intelligence, logic and reason – no doubt about that.

What what does this Perry fellow have to say?
Oh crap, we are doomed!!! Another one of “them” high up in the Republican party. How does the “Grand Old Party” manage to breed these bozos? And so MANY of them?

That sentence above would cause me to cringe for decades afterwards. Whenever I heard anyone laugh, I would think it was about me. And yet here he stands up on the most watched media provider in the US, and spouts this crap?

    Anyone disagree with that?

It is almost as bad as Dubya's "Most of our imports come from foreign countries". OMG Harvard, what did you allow to escape?

    Texas, you are screwed!!
