When Spain controlled Mexico it instituted a racial caste system to try to keep European Spanish blood pure. But racial caste systems eventually fail [as happened in ancient India.] The only way to keep race pure is total geographical separation of the races [different races live in their own homogenous nations ruled by their own kind.]

It's actually very relevant. It's perfectly okay for there to be an African-American caucus but if there's an "America first" caucus, hell is raised. While hypocrisy is a human condition, there's levels we can hold it to. Here, in the 21st century it's Liberals who are practicing separate but equal(that is, the idea that the plural United States government is capable of serving the interests of the union.)

But what we've seen is that not only is it not capable of serving those interests, but it does cater to interests of an specific group, just not the group that's told not to assimilate as a unit. You can see how this would drive people of said group to say 'F it to your equality BS that you don't really believe in'.

 

If European Spanish witnessed first hand the evil of their race, religion and culture being destroyed... then it's no wonder why they did NOT want that evil repeated in the New World.
