“Senate panel details Trump pressure campaign at DOJ to overturn election”

“On the very day that Attorney General William Barr left office in late December, then-President Donald Trump and top White House aides began a "relentless" pressure campaign aimed at interim Justice Department leaders to overturn the results of the 2020 election, according to a new Senate committee report.”

“Just say that the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the R. Congressmen," Trump said during a phone call”

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...on/6032581001/

Between what we knew, and with all this information surfacing, can there be any doubt with even the slightest opening that Trump fully intended to circumvent the Constitution and establish himself as dictator of the United States?

And the amazing part is that GOP leaders and politicians know this and yet even today very few not only will talk about it but also continue to support the guy regardless

The Grand Old Party has come a long way from the days of Lincoln, TR, Ike, and even Reagan

Given his mental condition, malignant narcissism, you simply know he tried it, is still trying it and should never be allowed to try it again. I still can't fathom why his supporters continue to hand over their hard earned $$$s to him and his and I never will.

The state by state "soft coup" is in high gear and must be stopped.

They’re on board with ending democracy so long as it’s their guy who seized power

A large segment of them just hate, hate that which they don’t understand nor want to understand, they are easy prey for demagoguery and Trump gives it to them, he pretends to hate the same things they hate and offers them a channel to express that hate

Others are just out for themselves, pursuing their own self interests and look to gain off of attaching themselves to Trump’s popularity.

The rest I have no idea, but for people who take every opportunity to tell others they love the Constitution it is bewildering how they endorse all of Trump’s efforts. The Grand Old Party has come a long way from Lincoln, TR, Ike, and even Reagan

No, they "know" how dangerous the Dems are, and how socialism and marxism are taking over to ruin the lives of all and completely destroy this country!
Half of Trump supporters don't even like him, they just have been conditioned to fear the "others" more.
They hate socialism and marxism, but have no clue on what they actually mean, then turn around and want to elect a dictator to, get this, preserve their freedom.
Insanity at a whole new level.

I'd say this is a correct analysis. Still, it's the lack of ability to think critically and the lack of any degree of introspection.

And a large part of that comes from social and media sources, the abstract terms “Freedom,” “Marxism,” and “Socialism,” are reduced to bumper sticker cliches to explain that they don’t understand

I just want to say one more thing (yeah, right)
In that post (#5) I was specifying Trump supporters. This is a problem for all, and there are equally as insane ideas on the far left.
Both have been making themselves very visible over the last couple of years, maybe more.
It isn't a good behavior for society overall, but they sort of play off each other. The extremists are going to push their agenda harder as they see the opposition push harder. How do you affect the "other side"? Don't push your side as hard. Seems counterintuitive, but that's the way I see it.
And I used the word "insanity", but many of the people are being manipulated. There are some master manipulators out there. Trump's a crude, but effective one on people who have a fear already built in. He is just exploiting it.

This report is NOT the report or the commission it is the slanted partisan report of the Democrats on the commission as note by Byron York.

Here is what the Republican report notes

"The Republican version of the story is pretty simple. Clark made his proposal. Trump listened to opinions about it. Trump rejected Clark's plan.

The meeting happened on Jan. 3 because on that day, according to the Republican report, Clark met with Rosen and said that he, Clark, had spoken with the president and that the president had offered him the job of acting attorney general — in other words, that Rosen would be ousted. Rosen immediately called the White House and asked for a meeting, which took place at 6:15 that evening. Several top DOJ officials, including Clark, plus members of the White House counsel's office, were there.

Much of the report is based on the testimony of Rosen and his top deputy, Richard Donoghue. At the meeting, Trump went around the room and asked for everyone's opinion of Clark's plan. He got an earful. Here is the Republican report's description of what happened, based in large part on Donoghue's account:

Donoghue noted in his testimony that, until this meeting, President Trump did not fully understand the gravity of his advisors' concerns with Clark's plan, which were serious enough that they and other senior DOJ leaders had stated they would resign if Clark was made acting attorney general and his plan was implemented. President Trump then turned to Donoghue and asked if he would resign if Clark became acting attorney general, to which he answered in the affirmative. President Trump also asked [Office of Legal Counsel head] Steve Engel, to which he also answered in the affirmative. When he had heard all views, President Trump rejected Clark's proposals and accepted his advisors' recommendations. Specifically, on January 3, 2021, President Trump rejected terminating Rosen and rejected sending Clark's draft letter. According to Donoghue, when President Trump made the decision to reject Clark's approach, he said, in part, 'We're not going to have mass resignations,' and when Clark then tried to dissuade the president from making that decision, President Trump responded with a direct 'No' to Clark a second time.

And that was the end of it.

You are aware that Bryon York is only discussing one event in a process that the report and the House's complementing report showed occurred over the course of several weeks leading up to January 3rd.

Says a lot about the "Republican report" when it actually comments that "Trump's contacts were an expression of concern with ensuring that DOJ was doing its job of fully investigating allegations of election fraud," right, telling Rosen back in December to "Just say that the election was corrupt + leave the rest to me and the R. Congressmen" sounds like he was worried about election fraud

This is the main takeaway and it's another hair on fire hyperbole. A President's adviser wrote a letter as to what he thought could be done. Trump presented it to all his advisers and they all said nope that can't be done and they would resign if he did it. He said thank for your advice and on your advice we will not do it. The originating adviser complained and Trump looked him in the face with an unequivocal no we aren't going to do it. That was it. Even when he inquired at the DOJ about what HE considered election fraud was not being investigated he was told they could not do so and that was it. Should he have personally done so, no I would prefer not. I think if he wanted to make that inquiry it should have been handled by the campaign from the outside or by his chief of staff. But the fact remains after he was advised that these things could not be done, that was it. A President has a right to seek that advice.

Trump had ever right to challenge elections in the proper venues. He did and he didn't win his challenges. He can hold whatever opinion of that that he wants to it's not ILLEGAL. The Dem report is total partisan hogwash just like the Russian collusion hoax. GET OVER TRUMP.

If you want people to get over Trump, tell Trump to go away. He makes sure he stays in the news. On purpose.
We can't help that you can't handle crticism of him.

That is not true, you, as “Bryon York” did in his commentary, are talking about the one meeting on I believe January 3rd. This wasn’t just one meeting, it was on going since the end of the election.

We have seen the documentation on how Trump attempted to pressure Barr, Barr’s own comments, his phone calls intimidating State election officials, and his anticipation that Rosen would help him out

Trump’s order to Rosen at the end of December, long before the meeting you are excusing, “just say that the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the Republican Congressmen,” is a bit more than just “hair on fire hyperbole”

He asked Barr, Barr said no you can't do that. Nothing was done. Trump BELIEVED there was fraud, he wanted it investigated UNDER THE LAW. He wanted election results rexamined because he believed there was fraud and it should be criminally investigated. Right or wrong he did not ask for an illegal acts to be committed. His advisers told him they could not do it the way he wanted it done. They did not. A candidate has every right to contest election results. There is no law that says they have to accept them, ie Abrams and Clinton. A President can ask advisers LOTS of things and many of those that President will be told that legally they cannot do that. So what?

He's not President now, give it up.

Yet he is holding rallies and collecting money to run again in 2024. Why would he be holding rallies lately then?
You would love for people to give it up so you aren't faced with the fact that Trump is a scumbag and idiot and you support that.
As long as Trump attempts to elevate himself into the political discussion, I'll criticize him. He is a scourge on this country.
I cannot fathom how people who say they care about this country can continue to support Trump. Imo, they are diametrically opposed.

Oh I wish he would, just like I wish Clinton would go away. I never could and still can't stand Trump and his mouth. Turn off his speeches and an interviews I have no interest. Even more so I wish the attacks on Trump which were/are attacks on the Presidency would go away.

I believe you, but the telling question is: would you vote for Trump again? Opponents matter, but if you're answer is "depends on who he's running against", who would you vote for over Trump?
I'm not looking for a point to pick at you on, more or less just curiosity.

You're equation leaves a little to be desired.
Some people do get worked up about it. Sometimes for good reason.
Imo, Trump would love to be a dictator. Listen to some of the things he's said in the past. I don't know how people ignore what Trump has actually said himself. I think the avalanche of opinions and hyperbole have diluted some of what he actually said and did.
Trump only cares about one thing: Trump.
He would throw every one of his supporters under the bus if it benefited him. He's already done it numerous times.
If re-elected, he would be actually dangerous to the United States. He would do some "expected" campaign promises, but mostly it would be payback, revenge and corruption at a unprecedented level.

So your defence of Trump, against charges that he engaged in criminal activities, is that he was delusional.
    OK.

I just want to say, honestly myself and many others don't want to think about or waste any more time on Trump. He is who he wants to be. But the only way he has any real power is if people like some of the posters on here keep supporting him and give him that power.
By saying "I don't like Trump, but I'll vote to put him in power" doesn't make any sense to me, other than someone has convinced you that the alternatives are "evil".
Trust me, there are many out there who are attempting just that, on both sides! Look at the candidates, assess who you think would be the best one to move our country along, and vote. We haven't had very good choices the last couple of elections. More participation in the primaries may help that. Let's hope so.
