This story is old and I cam across it looking for something else but it just blew me away - what could be so bad that a 10 year old would commit suicide let alone kill his sister http://www.ksdk.com/news/article/34...-kills-self?odyssey=obinsite&odyssey=obinsite
The problem is, the anti gun advocates seem to put all the blame on the gun. The gun does not fire by itself, someone has to pull the trigger. Blaming guns for murder or suicide is more taking the responsibility away from ones actions.
Its not the gun, its what creates the mental state to allow the person to kill someone. I find it amazing that intelligent people refuse to admit that 10 yr olds playing video games that are all about "SHOOTING" other human characters isnt desensitizing kids to murder and mayhem along with an unbridled media that grasps every violent act and displays it. To just keep blaming guns and gun ownership is absurd and they know it, they are quite smart enough to know it but its become a political battle with lines drawn in the sand
which they can only do IF there is a gun available. yep, their decision to keep guns in the house to protect their kids turned out real well.
The point is, my narrow minded friend, that the gun did not do this itself, a HUMAN pulled the trigger. Because these adults were not responsible and did not lock there guns away, it means I cannot have them? There are 80 million+ gun owners owning 100 million+ guns, and incidents like these barely ever happen. So you can take these stories as an example, but it is not something common by any means especially compared to how many legal guns are out there. Go to my recent thread called "What to do..." and post an educated response if you are at all capable. Please I'm dying to hear your wicked smart suggestion....
And if there had not been guns in the house. . .what do you think? The 10 year old would have used a butcher knife to kill both his sister and himself?
You are completely obsolving the parents as being responsible for this by trying to blame an inanimate object, which is completely irresponsible and dangerous. I pose this question now to you, does this instance (which is in fact rare) make it ok to take away my right to own guns? The only time any of my guns leave the safe is if I am with them, and 99% of the 80+ million gun owners owning over 100+ million are the same, or else instances like this would happen more often. So, tell me again, why does this rare instance justify taking away my firearms which protects my family?
