OK get out your notebooks you honkies, class is in session! 100 Ways White People Can Make Life Less Frustrating For People of Color As someone with very low tolerance for racist bullshit, I’ve managed to surround myself with white people who are cognizant of their privilege and strive to make the world a less terrifying and frustrating place for people of color. This means that I often deal with said white people asking me what they can actually do to affect change. So here, anxious allies of the world, are 100 simple ways to be the change. It's not nearly comprehensive, but it's somewhere to start. Go forth and disrupt our harmful racial paradigm! Some of my favorites: 4. If someone tells you they’re from Uganda, don’t say, “I went to Nigeria once!” Just, please. 8. Don’t assume we can run if we’re Black, do math if we’re Asian, have drinking problems if we’re indigenous… 15. Don’t say **** like, “I know what it's like to be a person of color…I’m a ginger!” 20. Understand that some days are even more mentally exhausting for people of color thanks to the news cycle. Try not to badger us for our opinions on the latest atrocity that has occurred. Leave us to grieve. 35. If you’re upper or middle class try to avoid moving into an area that has historically been populated by low-income people of color. Gentrification tears communities apart. 40. Remember that not all people of color are straight. Well I could go on, but I bet this author is a blast at parties...
And I heard it was racist for us wealthy white folks to live only in areas where rich whites and Asians live. I guess improving neighborhoods is racist too. A woman I used to know years ago was the daughter of one of Cincinnati's aristocratic families. Her brother was big into improving neighborhoods in what had been the most dangerous area of Cincinnati-the area between downtown Cincinnati and Mount Auburn which is about a two mile trip. Mt Auburn is where several of the big Cincinnati Hospitals are located including Christ Hospital (maybe the most prestigious) and north of that the University of Cincinnati, Hebrew union college, UC hospital etc. By developing what had been slums into quality housing, improvements to the area followed including better restaurants, more shopping and more and better policing.
Yeah if you white folk paint the houses, repair the breaks in the fences, fill the potholes, cut down the weeds and truck out the trash, you are making it hard on us black folks because the property we don't maintain will look even crappier than it does now when it is surrounded by other crappy run down property

POC was a lefty invention, the purpose was to define Mankind into two groups: Humanity and...white people. I would say it worked.
Initially by European colonists in the Americas in the 18th/19th Century, because there were an increasing number of non-white people the law required them to treat as people rather than property or animals, but they wanted to differentiate them from "actual people". It was somewhat reclaimed by the equal rights movement in the 20th Century to group together all of the people commonly discriminated against in the US at the time. Like so many generic labels, I expect it can have it's uses but doesn't account for all of the nuances of reality.
just had a feeling that "ppl of colour" was coined by a white man. Much like the term "coloured" was coined by afrikkkaners. It's an awfully racist label imho and any white person (lil Mike) should really think twice in future. He is actually promoting segregation in America using that. Segregation is not necessarily a bad thing of course but when one has taken captive of another and brought them to ones shore then surely integration is the just endeavour.
We are supposed to call Negroes "people of color" but we can't call them "colored people," even though "colored people" is what NAACP means: "National Association for the Advancement of Colored People." We are not even supposed to call them "Negroes" although Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. used the word "Negroes" fifteen times in his "I have a dream speech." We can't use the n word that ends with r, even though they use it frequently. Who makes up these rules? I was never consulted.
Whites did not take blacks captive. Blacks in Africa took other blacks captive, and sold them to whites.

I can think of one way black people can make life less frustrating (and frightening) for white people: they can stop blaming whites for problems they cause for themselves and for us with their morally irresponsible behavior, and especially with their criminal behavior. They should stop committing crimes against us. They should stop having illegitimate children we are supposed to support on welfare.
