I think that assimilation is key for immigrants for their success in our society.. I think native Americans also must assimilate in the current society in order to thrive and succeed. Only thru success and wellbeing can tribes preserve their language culture and history and provide a good future for their children.. I think educating Indian children was key to their own wellbeing and the wellbeing of the tribes.. Regarding children disappearing and abused? I'm sure it could have happened to some but rewriting history to make whites cruel sadist and criminal seems to be the trend so I'm not trusting of the "facts". I know that looking back at my own family history, multiple children from my ancestors in the late 1800s to 1920 died...multiples from the same family....died from disease..the Spanish flu primarily. We don't know how these children died.

Well some of that is left over from me watching The Underground Rail Road on Amazon Prime. That was interesting take on the evil of whites. Then...the Tulsa Greenwood massacre where the number of 300 blacks murdered..a totally fabricated number ....is being thrown out and accepted as fact.. So we are talking about Indian children being systematically abused and murdered by whites who "stole" them from their families. That sounds suspiciously like whites are systematically bad and evil. So sorry I distrust history being relayed right now. It all seems to point to sadistic, cruel, murderous whites and I'm abit irritated and prone to a rant.

I am Canadian. This is a terrible story. And it's not over, there are dozens of other children's bodies in other residential schools run by the Catholic Church. The policy of assimilation of Aboriginal people in Canada is a horrific stain on the history of our country. From 1870 to 1970, the church and government took children away from their families and they were sent far from home to suffer abuse and malnutrition.

Yeah, probably it was mostly tuberculosis. Are those colonizers to blame for trying to bring native children into civilized society, even though there were diseases going around in this civilized society that the immune systems of these native children were not adapted for? Any proof at all for the insinuation in that article that lots of these children died from physical or sexual abuse??
