can be had from Twisted Industries (for Ruger LC9 and Keltec PF9) or from SigArms for their P938 9mm. Sig also makes a pocket 22, complete gun on the same frame. The threaded barrels run an extra $80 or so, but make it very easy to mount a silencer. These 22's are 6 1/4" long, and it's feasible to make them adequately quiet (with water in the silencer) with a "can" that is just 2 3/4" long. The OAL of the package then, is the same 9" total that is the case with a 4" barreled 357 or the Beretta 9mm that our military uses. So this silenced .22 can be ccw'd under a shirttail, and swiftly drawn, for the removal of a sentry, guard dog and the like. It's also very sweet for use as entertainment while you are hiking.

.22 conversion units are sold in the mail to anyone, as they are not guns, in and of themselves. The spare magazines run about $40 for these .22 units, and the units themselves are $250. The 9mm's that you swap parts on (to convert them to being a.22 pistol ) run $250-$500 or so. The conversion units and the threaded barrels can be simply mail-ordered, folks. the silencers are a lot of hassle to possess legally, tho. The tax stamp is $200 and you'll wait 6 months on the background check.

Normally, .22 silencers are about 6" long, and about $300, but with special attention being paid to making them a minimal length, they can be cut to less than half that length. Running a can "wet', with water inside of it, tends to cut the sound by 2-3 decibels, which is almost a halving of the noise. Another trick is to layer some duct tape onto the "can". This suppresses the noise a bit, by reducing the "ringing" sound normally made by the can's tubing when the gun is fired.

you can make the silencer yourself, if you know how, but you'll still need to get the Federal tax stamp, or be risking 10 years in prison. A decent .22 "can" may be made and the barrel of the gun threaded, in one day, making all the needed tools yourself, in the typical garage. However, this will only be the typical cylindrical type of can 3/4" OD by 7" long, and the tube will be made of PVC pipe. If you want a sophistitcated sort of silencer, you'll need access to a lathe and a welding torch or Tig welder.
