    Dear Seekers of God

In these times many people are possessed or badly affected by negative energy. This energy affects not only them but other people in their vicinity as well. Depending on the strength of the possessing entity, the black energy covering around a person can extend out to a considerable distance. Needless to say, people in the vicinity of the affected person are at an increased risk of being affected when they actually come into physical contact with the person.

Negative energy is easily transmitted through directly looking into a possessed person’s eyes, by touch, or consuming food that the person has cooked. How you greet a person will have an effect on how that energy is transmitted.

The main factors in deciding the more spiritually appropriate greeting is based on the spiritual vibrations generated, and the level of contact between the two people. Greetings that involve physical contact increase the risk of a flow of subtle-energies between two people. As most people do not do regular spiritual practice, they are more prone to be affected by negative energies and black energy, and hence can affect others too. Greetings that are delivered with positive thoughts such as genuine love, affection and goodwill towards the other person increase the spiritual positivity of a greeting. However, these are at a psychological level. When the thoughts are at a spiritual level, such as “May this person progress spiritually” or “I am paying obeisance to the soul within you”, then the spiritual positivity of a greeting increases manifold.

The table below gives an overview of the results of greetings:
Type of greeting - Spiritual risk - Spiritual benefit
    Namaskār - Least - High
Bow - Less to medium - Less
    Handshake - Medium - None
Hug - Medium to high - None
    Kiss - High - None

From this table it can be seen that the namaskar is the spiritually best way of doing a "hello" or "goodbye". When a person greets another with namaskar, the greeting is accompanied by a slight bow made with hands pressed together, palms touching and fingers pointed upwards and closely positioned in front of the chest. Along with this, the word ‘namaskar’ or ‘namaste’ is said to the person who is being greeted. The greeting of namaskar is when the Soul in one person acknowledges and pays obeisance to the Soul in another.

As this greeting is about acknowledging the Divine in another, it enhances the spiritual potency and attracts Divine consciousness. When done with the spiritual emotion that one is actually paying obeisance to the soul in the other, it inculcates the attitude of surrender and gratitude. This helps spiritual growth.
While doing namaskar, when one thinks, “You are superior to me; ‘i’ am the subordinate one. I do not know anything, You are omniscient”, it helps in reducing one’s ego and increasing humility.
Physical contact enhances the ease of flow of subtle-energies between two people. With this greeting as there is no physical contact, the ability for one person to affect another negatively is minimised.

    Namaskar

Energy is nothing more or less than change.

Spiritual is nothing more or less than meta-spatial, 'non-spatial'.
Eternal is nothing more or less than meta-temporal, 'non-temporal'.

The contingent nature of material-spatial-temporal being is empirical evidence of an immaterial-spiritual-eternal necessary being.

I am confused, you want everyone to put their hands together and bow every-time they want to say hello or goodby to someone? sort of like this?

It isn't about what is convenient or what is more desirable. The ego is a difficult tree to cut down. Even after you think you have brought it down, you quickly see new green shoots coming from the stump. The ego is the biggest obstacle to uniting with the Spirit. The ego makes us see 'I' and 'you'. In reality there is no duality, only union. Every aspect of our lives should be focussed on overcoming the ego. Hence, in greeting and saying goodbye, the namaskar is the least "I" orientated and the most "We are one" orientated.

Namaskar, and thank you for the picture to illustrate the action. :)

    What is 'the spirit'?
    What is it's purpose?
    Why do we need it?

You mean "What up, (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)es" actually is more proper a way to greet someone than "Hello"?

    Dear Dairyair

The Spirit is a part of the subconscious mind. When it is minimally utilized, it shows itself as "the little voice". When it saturates the subconscious, it is you in every aspect of yourself.
Its purpose is to allow you to access the universal mind.
We don't need it. It is only for those who should need it. They feel they need it because they performed meritorious actions in previous births. It allows them to escape from the cycle of birth and death, and meld into the universe.

    Namaskar :)
