Well my view is that fiddling with human DNA is just gonna happen and this could be the norm in the near future. My view about the first trimester is the only way I can think to balance women’s rights to their bodies against the increasing humanity of who she is carrying. I don’t set legislation. Just giving my ethical opinion.
No it cannot be the norm. The consequences are too severe. Imagine if someone like Hitler had access to today's genetic knowledge and tools. This is something the world is going to have to confront in the future as genetics get better. And it's going to have to expound on some principles in order to do that. Principles involving rights of the unborn.
Yeah but too many countries and private organizations all of whom have many places to hide and demand will be high I would imagine from people who want a “custom” baby and willing to pay a lot. I’m not justifying it but I just know it will happen.
I think some people have way too much time on their hands and want to make up stuff because they haven't noticed that really bad stuff is actually HAPPENING now and it is real and their fairy tales aren't. People, real live independent-from-another's-body people, are dying...….from a very real disease and the leadership in this country is crap....and they are worried that women will go berserk if they are not CONSTRAINED LIKE CATTLE and start having abortions at 9 months.......this is bizarre!!
Sure it's happening now I think. I just want us to get started on the principles behind why it's wrong. It took us hundreds of years to work out the principles on why slavery was wrong. Let's get a head start on this one.
You miss the point that people are usually trying to make here. Its not as though I believe most women would have an 8 month abortion if it were legal (although I think a lot more would than you think). I bring it up to illustrate how a large percentage of humans abhor it. Why?
I'm living amongst them for years now. I know them. The poor. The inner city. Trailer parks etc. Right now I can't even go down the alley because one of my fine fellow citizens dumped 2 truckloads of trash directly in the center. It will probably be there a week.
My opinion is that it is aversive because there is a community drive to encourage procreation no matter how many of us there are and that this is primal. As humans we can somehow put up with preventing pregnancy but ending life is somehow different. I don’t know why.
In general humans seek pleasure and if nature has negative consequences for this or that pleasure, we find ways around those consequences. At least we think we do.
I’m just a guy on a political forum. I give my two cents and then I’m off to fight crime in Gotham City. Wait I’m thinking of someone else

Me too! Even the poorest peasants in Thailand were people of great character. I go by the odds at the location Im in. What are the odds I'm going to have a nasty encounter in my current location? Extremely high!
So you're claiming wealthy people never commit crimes? LOL! Ya, they do, maybe not on the street with a gun but in ways that aren't always so obvious....
I know of at least 5 women in this city that were successful in falsely accusing bf/spouse of DV and got the charge to stick effectively ruining the lives of the accused. 2 of them openly flaunt and laugh about it. Yeah, those women could have a late term abortion. Sorry you don't know people if you think there would be almost no late term abortions if it were legal. There would be more than a few.
