    "
The U.S. Supreme Court is, once again, wading into abortion law.

The justices on Friday agreed to hear arguments later this year over whether the federal government can require emergency room physicians at hospitals that receive Medicare funding to perform abortions when they are needed to stabilize a patient."

"The high court’s Friday order also effectively allows Idaho to enforce its prohibition on performing abortions, even in medical emergencies. The order temporarily freezes a lower court decision that blocked the law."

"The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled for Texas earlier this week, saying the decades-old Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA) should not compel doctors in the state to offer abortions when a patient’s life or health is in jeopardy. "

I keep hearing claims that under Republican rule women will be allowed abortions when their lives are in jeopardy.

However, Texas, Idaho and other states are moving to ignore women's lives.

This direction, having reached the USSC, will be a nation wide ruling where Republicans may gain the right to IGNORE A WOMAN'S LIFE.

No longer may ANYONE claim that Republicans are supportive of life saving treatment for women.

    (((Sigh)))

I blame the constant dismissal of death. Kids killed at school? Oh! Well part of life - thoughts and prayers. People dying in a pandemic - China or democrats or big Pharma are to blame but such is life and don’t bother me. Women dying? Well better them than the innocent foetuses! And when you tell them this is. No win situation because BOTH will die you either get some excuse about how if they allow this women will start getting pregnant just to have abortions or blame the womn for getting pregnant in the first place or best yet - start blathering on about “why can’t the foetus just be transplanted”. I swear the ignorance is that profound

Note no one is touching this subject. I speak because I do care about avoidable mortality and morbidity, whether that is due to legislation, guns, environmental poisons, pandemics and epidemics, food security or any of the myriad avoidable issues faced by too many on a daily basis. So, let’s up the ante on this thread.
let’s look at causes of maternal mortality and see what should be done

    A) Racial bias/Implicit bias
https://www.yalemedicine.org/news/m... disease and stroke,to a year after delivery.

This is multi factorial but small steps may be education of emergency room staff re implicit bias

    B) Advanced maternal age

No argument women are starting families later, however it is also extremely risky to have a child too young

    C) prenatal care (Lack of)

Prenatal care is essential especially to identify pending concerns I.e. hypertension (eclampsia), overall health etc etc etc BUT good prenatal care is not a stand alone service it relies on a healthy medical infrastructure and lack of access barriers which may include distance and cost

    D) Fear of adverse outcomes

Some women who are addicted to illicit substances will not seek medical help for fear of incarceration

    E) Evidence Based Care/ Best practice
