I really think that direct democracy model is better than representative model and since the Switzerland is the only country that is closest to direct democracy i hope if a guy from Switzerland is lurking in this forum to answer few questions for me. I am curious about the procedure of revoking a low accepted by the government. For example, i find that a law accepted by the government it's not fair for the citizens. What is the way to start initiative for revoking the law? Is there a rules for the reason i have to specify? For example, i want to revoke the law for one reason but other initiative may start procedure for revoking the same law for a different reason.
Switzerland is a much smaller country. Direct democracy might not work so well for larger countries. Typically with larger countries there is much more distance between the people and the elected politicians, and special interests tend to take advantage of the situation. Another factor is the decentralization of power. Switzerland is more like a confederation of several different cantons than an individual nation.
What then can prevent a government to take too much power? Even american constitution that provides decentralization of power doesn't prevent a man hungry for power like Barack Obama to take too much power even the constitution doesn't allow him that power? If the people have the power to revoke laws politics will not dare to do something unconstitutional because they will know they will be impeached by the people.
