This is a great article written by a woman with an African background and who lived in Africa for 30 years. She suggests that there is nothing to be done to help Africa. The World Bank has given Africa $100 billion and not a thing has changed. It has gotten worse. The author's suggestions as to what should be done in Africa are sane and make a lot of sense. I think her article should be given to as many Africans, African/Americans, and their molly coddling apologists as possible.

Why do think African-Americans should be responsible for what happens in Africa? Are Italian-Americans responsible for what happens in Italy? You think that every black person knows each other?

Yet you SPECIFICALLY single out African-Americans as somehow being related to the problems in Africa in your OP.
    Why?

I read the story in the link and it doesn't say what you think it says. Heck, it looks like it's sorta saying the opposite; that we should wash our hands of Africa because there's not a damn thing we can do about the mess there because the leaders are corrupt to the bone and the people just don't care, if they ever did.

    Did you read it?

Simple. African-Americans blame whitey for all the problems of black people. They need to accept responsibility for their own actions at some point in time.
Did you even the article? Probably not. Full of truths about Africans that no one wants to talk about.

She's not saying they are related to the problems in Africa; she's saying that they should be realists about trying to FIX the UNfixable problems in Africa.

Why would a black electrician in Denver who has never given Africa a second thought need to be concerned or forced to read a story as the OP suggests.

No, When she says "They need to accept responsibility for their own actions at some point in time.", that's saying that the Black American dentist in Seattle needs to accept responsibility for - the Black American dentist in Seattle.

And you are sure that black dentist didn't do just that decades ago? Why would the OP feel the need to single out African Americans in a discussion about the problems in Africa?

I've heard enough of my Black students talk about Africa - although half of them call it "Da Muddaland" to the bemusement of my Hispanic students - to know they appear to care about it on some level; moreso than the Hispanic kids do.

I dunno, I guess we need to call up this hypothetical Black dentist and find out. And I presume that African-Americans care more about Africa/care more about helping it than other groups would. Pipette's point is that they should stop bothering as the place is a cesspool.

All important human development measures in most African countries have improved. Famine, child mortality, deaths due to armed conflicts and disease - all improved. Not only improved but substantially improved.

The most important measure is life expectancy. In Africa between 2010 and 2016 the life expectancy in Africa increased by more than 10 years, the largest improvement of any region in the world.

For once I agree with this guy. African Americans really have nothing to do with Africa as most were born in the United states

Pippette2 DID YOU READ THE ARTICLE???It is 17 years old, written in 2002.It is historical information, in no way current.Just as we have states within America where the average citizen is not particularly well educated the same is true in the various countries of the African continent.

From Africa, we get: 1) hurricanes, 2) viruses, and 3) fraudulent e-mails, telling me they have $1 million for me if I give them my bank account info.

We’d be better off without Africa.

Did you read the article? And yes, Africans did enslave other Africans and everyone but you and yours knows it. Anyway, its the Chinese stealing their resources now. Resources were taken out of Africa. On the other hand Africa has been given hundreds of billions dollars by the west. What do they have to show for it??? AIDS is rampant, corruption is rampant, violence is rampant, and tribal warfare has been going on for eons.

The author thought it relevant enough to post it in 2017.

I never blamed Africa's plight on African Americans. Danny is putting words in my mouth I never said.
On the other hand, African/Americans are constantly whining about their sorry plight, and blame whitey for it. This article suggests that there may be some more valid reasons why blacks often fail to thrive, and that it isn't all whitey's fault. Maybe a little self-reliance would be good for them--as the author suggests.

That is not really accurate. Many Europeans settled into vast areas of Africa that were uninhabited and made it into usable farmland with cattle ranches and other crops to sustain their lives and to sell. Many tribes and nomads that were living in and around territory were more than happy to either work on the land or to take money as payment to leave.

The history of Africa is rich but it is also very misunderstood.
