It has recently been confirmed that two young men who were letting their lives drift a few years ago and who were from a middle-class background from London, Ontario, Canada were the Canadian terrorists found dead in the aftermath of the Algerian terrorist attack some months ago,

One of the two was from a Greek-Canadian family who converted to Islam fairly recently. Another young man of Asian descent is not confirmed as a terrorist, but has also converted to Islam and is now studying in Mauretania in northwestern Africa.

So the big question is how did this happen? Obviously some recruiter spotting their need for meaning in their meaningless lives and manipulated them down the path of Islamo-fascism until they were willing to give up their lives killing innocent Western civilians from much the same background they themselves came from.

The scary idea to take away from this incident is there are a lot more aimless young men out there in North America. Just how aggressive should the government be in trying to identify possible recruiters and potential recruits to the Islamo-fascist jihad?

This is a big concern because the young men (now known to number 3) had no relationships with extremists until they sought them out. CSIS (our version of the CIA) had them on their radar but wasn't able to stop their activity.

It really is hard to understand at this point what motivated these guys to join up with terrorist and carry out such a horrible attack.

the desire of all young people to be a part of something bigger than their own insignificant existences. cults and gangs tap into this same urge.

Maybe. I'm almost afraid this could be an alternative to a mass shooting. Instead of shooting up their school or something young people join up with terrorists where they can possibly do more serious damage.

its even more dangerous than that because kids will do things in a group they would NEVER do alone. look what Mao created with his Red Guards!!
