This begs the question “How far do we go?” It certainly has implications for storage of frozen embryos- and what to do with them if not required/ used.

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...vf-ruling-embryos-sparks-concern/72673907007/

Nation wide there are huge numbers of stored embryos. But the implications go even further

Are women going to be charged with manslaughter if they have a miscarriage?

And do you disagree with the lower court's decision in this case?

Do you think that couple should have been awarded money, like the court said?

If I know those on the Left (including the bulk of abortion supporters) the answer is an unequivocal "yes".

You're making it sound like the Alabama state Supreme Court was completely crazy and absurd because they ruled that "embryos are children". But we really need to look at the specific case and situation their ruling was applying to.

It's possible the court may have just used this as a legal excuse to be able to award the couple money, under the law.

Imagine you went to all the trouble of having embryos created and stored, and the clinic destroyed them through negligence.
It's not so easy, or cheap, the create those embryos again. In some cases it might not even be possible to repeat the process again due to medical factors (a likely reason they may have had the embryos stored in the first place). And then there is the emotional impact, and even ethical considerations. Obviously some couples would prefer not to destroy their embryos if there is a possibility they could be used again to grow into their next child.

Since when has the progressive Left cared about legal precedents? Only when it comes to abortion?

I have spent the last few years on this forum trying to convince those on the Left to understand the concerning legal precedents the court decision in certain cases set, even if you agree with the outcome of that specific case; and no one seems to care.

And when has the conservative Right ever cared about having the Constitution interpreted correctly? They prefer justices that legislate from the bench inserting their opinions instead of original intent and meaning.

This Alabama ruling has broad ramifications that certainly have not been resolved.

It is NOT just one case. At the least it affects all of cryogenic preservation and IVF. Also, it is a RADICAL change to existing abortion law.

There are estimates of the number of frozen embryos that range from half a million to a million. Many of those frozen embryos don't have "owners". Many have been frozen since the 1970s. All of them gradually deteriorate even though they are frozen.

As the numbers grow and as ownership disappears, who is allowed to kill these humans? What are the chances that some couple is going to ask for an embryo frozen for the last 50 years?

How can a cryogenic facility even operate, knowing that they are becoming the owners of embryos that have eternal life on Earth?

Also, this has caused IVF to stop in Alabama, depriving would be parents of a way to have a family with their own genetic material.

I really don't believe you have thought this through, judging from you attempts to make this political while ignoring the realities.

Yup .. I know your response is to another poster but that about sums it up. .. It is absolutely insane .. Law on the basis of anti-Science - anti - logic - anti Jesus religious beliefs.

What could be more nuts in the nuthouse ?

Fair point .. the abortion issue a huge thorn in side - my body my choice real popular with the younger crowd . and then you have the "not my body my choice" Jab on a slab forced medical treatment on the Blue side. Funny how that freedom is being sodomized from both directions .. the twin assault on essential liberty.

"the woman is to be believed" and who gives a shart if we are punting on the Rule of Law - Founding Principle - and some mighty rules of Justice designed to keep the Gov't from getting too much power. but hey .. we all know the Fembot Nazi movement forgot all about equality and became about power and control. .. resulting in massive cancel culture societal decay.

This issue is not comparable to the COVID vaccination issue.

It should not have affected choice to discard embryos as the accidental destruction of something comes under any other business transaction

While the left prefers justices who don't simply read the Constitution but who interpret it like a psychic reading the foam on top of a cup of coffee

Wrong .. The Jab is my body my choice same as abortion .. the anti aborts also falsely claiming "its not just about YOU" now don't they dear . what about the life of the baby you are about to kill.

Same baby -- dressed up in mRNA -- a treatment that did not satisfy the Martial Law Justification which allows the state to temporarily override liberty.. and a big my body my choice liberty .. Talking forced medical treatment mandates.

Just as there is no Baby .. as much as one would like to dress up a single human cell as a Baby .. it is not .. there is no Prevents Transmission justification because the Jab didn't work at that .. no significant transmission .. negative in some studies .. like this one I posted to you previously .. CDC: 74% Of People Infected in Massachusetts COVID-19 Outbreak Were Vaccinated (verywellhealth.com)

4 out of 5 who were hospitalized were Jabbed. No reason what so ever to put a Yellow Start on that boys head .. restrict his movement because he is "Unclean"

Told you this already .. .. what part of .. my body my choice is being violated without legitimate justification .. not sinking in ? Do you know what legitimate justification means .. = nothing other than transmission is considered .. as that was the justification tabled by the Gov't .. the "Hospitals filling up" .. not allowed - but is false for other reasons - as jabbing the healthy not going to make any difference to that number as they not showing up at hospital at rates any different than the jabbed -- but overall not showing up in significant numbers sans the 1 in 800 having a severe adverse reaction .. 1 in 300 if we are talking males 16-30 .. a rate higher than Unjabbed healthy males showing up at the hospital dead or close to it. .. but neither of these significant to the overall hospital numbers period so a complete non starter on any level -- and certainly not to the level of over-riding "My body my choice"

You are talking now Law on the basis of a Bad and fallacious argument .. just like the court ruling on embryo's .. on the basis of religious justification for law .. which is just as bad as law on the basis of bad science or fallacious argument . fallacious Utilitarianism in your case.

A primary one would be anytime a liberal speaks about the second amendment.

I've always said it was ridiculous that money can be awarded to parents in a lawsuit over death of their child.

Is this case really any more absurd that the regular type of wrongful death lawsuit?

    In my view, not really.

It would be interesting if this ruling could open the door to a father being able to sue a woman due to termination of their unborn child.

The fact that you are unaware .. sad commentary right from the get go.

Did you not realize people were given the choice .. Jab or lose Job ? Never heard of the Vaccine Mandates ?

or is a case of unaware of one's own victimization ? .. or better, negligent when it is the victimization of another - a group you don't like - dissenters from your hallowed perspective.

    ding ding ?

Of course! If you're a nurse you must be vaccinated.

    This is called common sense.

I thought you would stay on track not go down a rabbit hole where gun nuts imagine interpretations whilst ignoring the full text but this is the last I will speak on it on this thread as I do not want it derailed

So you have already forgotten when the Biden administration attempted to force anyone with 100 or more employees to either make every employee get jabbed OR to force employers to test ALL unjabbed employees every single week?

Fortunately the courts told him to go and pound sand but what he was attempting to do there was quite obvious.... Forced the employers to enforce his mandate with the illusion of some sort of ultimatum of choice because no employer was going to sit there and keep eating that cost week after week.

It's not the so-called gun nuts who imagine anything.... It's the liberals who read the tea leaves.

Okay then let's stay on track.... Show me the part of the Constitution where abortion is anything remotely similar to a constitutional right.

Look deeply into the foam on the top of the cup of coffee and you can find whatever you want

But bottom line - vaccinations affect society as a whole whereas pregnancy only truly affects a small circle of people. Anyone who thinks otherwise has never seen a measles outbreak
