Anyone claiming so needs to try to start understanding how free speech actually works. Your right to free speech does not entitle you to someone else's bullhorn. Please learn that. Learn the 1st Amendment. Then you will see why OPs like this are complete nonsense.

Your position reminds me of the position of the Robber Barons and Monopolists of a century ago.

Like it or not, the digital world and those platforms have become the Public Square of the old days. Public Square means free speech must be guaranteed by the government.

You are arguing that the corporations rightly control the Public Square. I find your position to be sophistry.

It still IS guaranteed by the govt in that the govt cannot take action against you based on the things you say. To my knowledge the govt has not taken action against anyone for what they've said.

Gosh, I must not have had any "free speech" before the internet was invented. When those newspapers wouldn't publish an
opinion piece I wrote in 1977, they were squashing my "free speech". When ABC wouldn't put me on the air in 1973, they were
squashing my free speech. Thanks for letting me know this - I'll be sure to file a case with the Supreme Court.

because they don't actually THINK about policies they support. They think only conservative speech can be censored but they are oh so wrong. the spite in me almost wants it to happen so i can watch it come back and bite them, but in reality, i'd much rather preserve free speech for EVERYONE

Maybe what you're missing is that the government and its useful corporations suppress/strike/cancel/forbid speech that does not comply with official narratives. That is, after all, the purpose of censorship--control of the narrative, control of what's being said in the public square. Ministry of Truth sort of thing.

Did the newspapers of yore ban you from submitting letters to the editor forever, or did they do it on a case by case basis?

Ordinarily I would mostly agree with this assessment, but when they own basically the only bullhorn in town, that changes things a bit.

It is very much happening, especially in this Operation Covid. You might have been snoozing when it happened, but cases like Judy Mikovits and Front Line Doctors are but 2 examples of many in which prior restraint was/is exercised against dissenters from the Official Narrative.

Just because you didn't see it does not mean it didn't happen.

And when FB Twitter, et al are treated like the publishers they are, you'd have a point.

Mikovits who's claims were already debunked? Mikovits who in 2009 authored a paper whose finding were discovered to be false and her story was retracted? THAT Mikovits?
The Front Line doctors claims have also been debunked. Seems it's you who has been snoozing.

I think that is changing in our brave new world where a phone call or email to authorities can set in motion serious, even deadly consequences for people who have literally done nothing other than offend a person they've interacted with online or in person. They call these security measures, red flag laws.

I think when the "jury is in" on this little abomination, the PTB are going to become aware that the people are not pleased.

Your example of course has nothing to do with free speech and everything to do with someone falsely accusing someone of something. Unfortunately false accusations have been a thing since the beginning of time.

Every time I hear a democrat publicly demand that extremist speech (but not BLM ANTIFA et al) be rooted out of the public discourse, I'll remember you said this...
