Actually, he said all those things after saying he was going to get it done before the midterms at rallies. Adding qualifiers after doesn't change the lie. It's like the judge telling a jury to disregard a statement from the prosecutor as inadmissible. They're still going to remember .
It's useless to try and defend Trump's lies. The one truth of his I agree with is that he tells the truth when he can. Since he's a pathological liar he rarely can tell the truth .

I think the difference is audience reaction. People on the right tend to separate politics from art and we still go to movies starting nut job liberals and listen to music by the same. The Dixie Chicks are the only exception to the rule I can think of here. The left on the other hand wants to punish people for their political beliefs and will actively seek to ruin their careers by boycotting their performances. ZZ may have felt they needed to do this to protect tour profits so score one for the rabid left I guess. Get on the liberal bus or get run over by it.
