Actually it IS relevant. The claim is being made "then they came for me"...so it's damn relevant to ask who 'they' is and why 'they' would come for you.
Do you really think the OP was meant to be an historical depiction of a specific event? Would you say an ethnic Jew has more cause to keep firearms for defense than, for example, and ethnic German, because one has more historically been persecuted than the other?
It's an allegory on the creeping encroachments on Liberty. Accept one without complaint and further assaults on Liberty and Freedom are sure to follow. And yet those who were victims of the holocaust were first subjected to being disarmed by law. The only reason such is dismissed as a possibility, is because the supporters of various firearm-related restrictions cannot reason away what did actually occur, or present anything to assure the public that such a development is not a possibility.
Then perhaps the politicians of the united states should simply cease talking about firearms confiscations and prohibitions.
