…”Senate Bill 2 has received plenty of pushback from counties throughout Northern California, and another county is saying “no” to enforcing the new law within its county lines.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 on Tuesday to allow concealed weapons in local government buildings, which directly defies Newsom’s SB2 bill…

…SB2 seeks to ban Californians, including those with concealed carry weapons permits, or CCWs, from carrying firearms in 26 types of public places such as parks, sports stadiums, hospitals, and houses of worship.

Shasta County’s opposition to SB2 has been well-documented in recent months. In a video posted to YouTube at the beginning of 2024, Shasta County Sheriff Michael Johnson said he and his deputies would not enforce the bill’s restrictions, which he deemed “unconstitutional.””…

Oops we did it again! Happily defying our state. We are per capita the most armed county in the state of California and don’t mind saying so proudly. Yet another issue for the LA Times to get its panties in a wad over us up here about and we love it!

We defied the state on China virus lockdowns, resuming in person public schools, mask and vaccine mandates. We defy all the state’s unconstitutional gun control laws, its love of dominion voting machines, water use, wind farms, and now where we will allow ccw holders to carry.

Did I mention that we love pissing off the editorial board of the LA Times and their writers?

Its too bad that only some states (like CA) actually have locally elected Sheriffs to enforce the law. We have them in WA as well, and much of the same 'we're not going to enforce your unconstitutional hoplophobe bullshit' in 3/4 of our counties. I think something like 1/2 or maybe 2/3 of US states don't elect their LE.

If Californian LE doesn't enforce shoplifting laws, might as well not enforce any of the others as well.

Nice to see there are still pockets of sanity left in California.

I'm betting you'll find a lot of crossover between areas of CA that value self defense and areas of CA that don't have a major shoplifting problem.

That’s just it. Those laws are enforced in this part of the state. We just fully staffed our local police and sheriff’s departments and we back the blue here. We reopened a floor of the jail and then doubled down on patrols of the shopping areas. Plain clothes officers in the store noted targets leaving and uniformed officers nabbed them in the parking lot. Most didn’t have the $950 of stuff for a felony and expected to be cited and released. Surprise! They were told they were going to be spending time in jail. Huge effort over the holiday shopping season. New floor almost full. Misdemeanors can get jail time and we’re giving it to shoplifters and homeless who refuse help and resort to petty crime to support habits. Like I said we back the blue and our city and county government lets them have equipment liberal places took away from their police.

Pretty much every PD everywhere picks and chooses what to enforce and not enforce, including many of the officers. We have a motorcycle cop--a single one--who will pull you over for pretty much anything no matter how petty when most of them you would really have to be flying to get pulled for speeding. Part of that has to do with them being understaffed and part of it is because after a series of chiefs wanting to put their own mark on the department, the patrol regime is kind of messed up. I live a mile from the police station and the last time I called them it took almost 40 minutes for them to show up because the 1 car assigned to my area was on another call and they won't pull a car from an adjoining area unless it is a shooting or some heavy crap going down. The end result is that unless it is a shooting or some heavy crap going down, you can probably get away with it.

A parasitic one, at that. Dude looks like a cross between a used car salesman and a bottom of the barrel ambulance chasing lawyer.

Unless a facility is equipped wrh metal detectors, I always rely on the "concealed" part of CCW, regardless of what any ordinance says I can or can't do. No one will ever know I am armed unless the fit hits the shan, and I find myself unable to evade/avoid.

While I have no issue with legal conceal carry, I am not sure what was "won" here.

It seems that one can carry in government buildings, which seems a really odd place to carry a gun.

It's illegal in most federal & state buildings of which I am aware. It may seem odd to you, but I never bother removing my CCW while checking PO box. If I'm caught it's a felony, and a serious one.

Why? The only way I’d be caught is if there’s a violent offender against whom I have to defend myself or others. In which case I’ll have bigger fish to fry than whether or not I’m allowed to carry concealed at the post office.

So you knowingly commit a felony hoping to not be caught? Odd. I don;t commit felonies because I am a somewhat moral person.

I'm "immoral" then. Thanks for clearing that up. I'm proud to wear your sanctimony like a badge. Meanwhile, if the fit hits the shan for either of us at the post office, I'll have more than harsh language to deploy. You won't. But you'll be "somewhat moral." And maybe dead. Victory is yours!

Other than getting my federal duck stamp, I don't go the post office. When I do, I am not worried about needing to defend myself.

Me either. I'm never worried about that, quite honestly. But I prefer to have the option available to me nonetheless. Do you regard the Shasta County Board of Supervisors, and the sheriffs who've lined up to say they're not going to enforce Newsom's BS - you know, the topic of the OP - to be "immoral?" If not, why?

I consider them to be utter idiots, hell bent on lame posturing, but not necessarily immoral. Maybe drunk on MAGA rhetoric and juvenile fantasies of John Wick abilities

But since you don't like how the Shasta County Board of Supervisors voted, they & anyone who presumes to agree with them are "... utter idiots ...drunk on MAGA rhetoric and juvenile fantasies of John Wick abilities."

He's here all week, folks. Try the veal!

That seems like an example if inaccurately reiterating what I have said in this thread.
