Please don't compare this to Godzilla Minus One. Two completely different types of movies. That was a masterpiece and almost done like a horror movie (kinda) with a rich plot.
The Legendary version is about packing in lots of monsters, battles and special effects. Yes I like their middle earth story (at least they tried to come up with a new origin other than nuclear weapons).

    Here's what I'm excited for:

    1) Leaner, Meaner Godzilla! (I like when they go lean, it gives me Rocky 3 vibes. Godzilla had to get shredded for the big battle).

    2) Shimo! This Monster is huge and walks on all 4s and is the same height as Godzilla while its on all 4s which means its way bigger than Godzilla (maybe thats why zilla went rocky 3 , because he knew he couldn't count on raw strength given the size difference)

    3) Skar-King! He looks kinda like a kong, but ginger, and taller and leaner, but not quite an ourangatang. I don't really know what he is but he looks cool as hell

    ENJOY!

Ech... everything about it looks entertaining except for King Kong. I just hate monkeys. Its a me problem.

If King Kong flings piss and **** at Godzilla while flailing around and screaming incessantly, I'll go watch it, because that's what monkeys do. :chainsaw::steamed::rage::oldman:

Absolutely - enjoyed both the 60s and more recent version of Godzilla/Kong. Will see opening weekend if the reviews are decent

Huh, well I guess we can't disagree about everything Darth. I pretty much get hyped about every kaiju movie, but this one holds a special place in my heart. I used to watch the VHS of the original King Kong vs Godzilla on repeat as a kid. I just hope they do Kong justice, but it looks like they will. Even though Godzilla defeated him in the last movie, at least Kong got to save Godzilla and save the day in the end.

Okay, I just got back from seeing it, and I loved it, but it was totally different from what I thought it would be. If you are going expecting awesome kaiju fight scenes, I think you might be disappointed. There are a couple of good fight scenes, but I don't think any of them really stack up to the fight scenes from the previous film (except maybe one). Also, if you are watching this movie as a Godzilla fan, you'll probably be disappointed. He doesn't actually have much screen time and there's really nothing giving you any reason to be invested in him. Plus, there seem to be no stakes in any of his fights. He pretty much just effortlessly destroys everything he's up against.

But if you are a Kong fan? Oh ****ing boy are you in for the biggest must-see film. Kong was what I was there for, and it blew me away. The axe was already awesome, but the mechanical fist was even better. The "baby Kong" character was actually pretty awesome. Most of all, though, this film had some of the BEST no-dialogue scenes I've EVER seen in a film just with Kong interacting with the other apes. I could have watched an entire film just about that.

And the Skar King villain? I wouldn't say any fight beyond the first one with him was all that impressive, but his presence just oozed menace with every frame. Originally the rumors were that he would be much bigger than Kong, and he's actually a good bit smaller, but I'll be damned if they didn't give him the most intimidating swagger I've ever seen in any action film when he's first introduced.

All in all, I was just hoping for a fun, dumb kaiju movie that was at least half as good as the previous one, but (at least for Kong fans) I think this one was even better. And while I just went to the cheapest theater I could find, I regret not watching it on IMAX.

Also, going to be even geekier for a bit here, but I LOVE how the past two films have addressed Kong in his fights. Instead of physically scaling up Kong to be a match for his threats, making him bigger, etc. like they did in the original 1960s Kong v Godzilla film, they are focusing on his intelligence in fights. The best example was probably the nighttime city fight against Godzilla in the previous film (probably my favorite kaiju fight scene of all time), but this film also digs into this.

But Kong is based on a gorilla, which isn't a monkey and doesn't fling poo. He does fling something at Godzilla in one of the fight scenes though, and it is enormously entertaining. Gorillas are pretty calm, stoic, empathetic creatures, and they really bring that through with Kong. Plus, I'm just going to make fun of you a bit here, because of the two, Kong is obviously the paladin :nana:

But, seriously, yeah, this is a Kong-centric movie. There's not much here for Godzilla fans. However, the next one is supposed to go the other direction, and I've seen some amazing, even convincing, fan theories about Space Godzilla and Jet Jaguar making an appearance.
