I was recently scammed because i didn't realise that after 45 days, eBay and PayPal say "heh, we don't give a sh!t you didn't get what you ordered". You can't even put negative feedback after 45 days. I mean, that just INVITES scams. I can't warn anyone else about this seller in eBay itself. So - moral of this story is ALWAYS get a refund, or lodge your complaint before 45 days is up. Then you've got some cover. Share your story if you have one.
Change yer eBay passwords... EBay asks 145 million users to change passwords after cyber attack 21 May`14 - EBay Inc said on Wednesday that a cyber attack carried out three months ago has compromised customer data, and the company urged 145 million users of its online commerce platform to change their passwords.
I always found ebay to help with any problems , they are more buyer friendly than seller friendly and the buyer usually is satisfied. Like anything else, ya gotta read da rules. And letting the seller and ebay know there's a problem as soon as possible always helps. PS: Everything, and anything, invites scams.
Ebay dropped the ball on hack notification... Three states investigate eBay response to massive cyber attack Thursday 22 May 2014 • Connecticut, Florida and Illinois conduct joint probe • New York attorney general requests free credit monitoring • Ebay denies 'database' on sale for 1.45 bitcoin is authentic MOD EDIT - OFF TOPIC
That's no longer quite true anymore. I've filed complaints because I wasn't sent the item I paid for (it was a cheap knockoff) and wanted my money back from an obviously shady seller, and they required that I pay shipping expenses out of my own pocket. ^_- I mean if you were buyer friendly, you wouldn't require buyers to pay for sellers mistakes/scams. But I'd also encourage patience on the other side too. I've sold and when I was in the service I sold some ps3 controllers and just started it at a penny. They sold pretty cheap, something like 15 for the actual controllers. I had marked down that the handling tome would be a few days, and I was busier than usual and couldn't get to a post office before closing for a week, and the buyer quickly filed a complaint saying that I wasn't sending him what he bought because he got a good deal. ^_- I told him to be patient, that stuff had come up, and I would send them out. He responded basically saykng, " nut uh, you just don't want to send them because I got such a good deal on them." I was pretty POed wkth how rude the guy was being, I just told him that since he insists on being like that I won't make a liar out of him. I didn't mind getting the infraction from ebay. This guy was being a total tool.
I don't know how you got an "infraction" from Ebay if you stated in your terms the delay in shipping. And in any business putting up with rude customers is just part of the deal. As to : """That's no longer quite true anymore. """ Did you let ebay know you didn't get the item? There are procedures in place for this. And yes, it's standard that buyers pay for shipping unless item is listed as "Free shipping". Tip: Before buying anything , read the entire auction, check the seller's feedback.
lol, you sound like an ebay cs drone. As I already said, the item shipped was not what I ordered, and I was going to be given a refund if I ate the costs on returning it. I was at a loss because a seller sent an item other than what I ordered. If the ebay guarantee can't guarantee that you'll get what you order [guarantee as in you get it or are covered at no cost to yourself], then it's no good.
And use a credit card, even if you pay thru paypal. I think you have 60 days to lodge a complaint with your CC company and they will often refund if you can demonstrate you were ripped off.
Bought a computer for $600 and it was never delivered. Filed a complaint. Due to the users rating I got $200 back minus a $25 fee. Years later I get a notification in the mail that they are taking the guy to court. About a year after that there was a settlement and I got a check for something like $30.
I don't know what a "cs drone" is but spent 12 years selling and buying on ebay. There were very few problems and the ones that did occur ebay fixed , to the buyer's satifaction. Any problems and I just followed ebay procedures...IF the item was not what you ordered you should've got your PURCHASE price back. You can't expect sellers to pay because YOU want to ship it back. With all my experience on ebay I NEVER buy electronics except from a brick and mortar....that's one area on ebay, and online, I don't go near. However, that doesn't mean you can't have the same problems at a brick and mortar.... Best advice, read every word of the auction and check seller's feedback.....
He actually had pretty good feedback but ended up stiffing a bunch of people at the end. Well, the feds caught up with him. I actually tracked him down to his hometown.
Okay, I don't see this issue as anything I care enough to debate, so I don't see why you're trying to make straw men here, but I'll say it once more. I got something other than what I ordered. What you're saying is essentially that if I order a cd and get a brick, it's my fault and I should pay return shipping. That's why you sound like a lazy ebay rep.
I was in the last minutes of bidding on something I wanted on eBay and got an email that said my account needed some kind of verification for my credit card. Can't remember all the details but the email took me too an eBay sign-on, which I did since I wanted to sort it out before the bidding ended, then realized, before I put in my credit card number that I had been scammed. I quickly changed my eBay password since they already had that then I looked more closely at the web page it sent me to and found a number of normal links that did not work on the webpage. At that point in time I could not believe I fell for it. Now, if I get any links to known sites asking for information or verification, I never use the link in the email but go directly to the site and sign on there. I saw a car for sale for a ridiculous price so located the eBay seller and called him. He was mad as hell. His account had been taken over by a scammer and at that time (a long time ago) he could not figure out how to fix it.
Oh for pete's sake ...YOU seem to want some damn debate or fight ...,.I just stated my experience on and with ebay...and can see why your seller screwed YOU!
What? If YOU send me some crap that I didn't ask for, why the hell should it be on ME to pay to send it back to you? What tree did you fall out of? Ebay buyers are buying out of what is known as "implied trust". If YOU misrepresent what you are selling, it is on YOU to pay the return shipping to get this UNWANTED item back. It's not unwanted because I changed my mind while it was in a UPS truck, it's unwanted because the SELLER MISREPRESENTED THE ITEM.
Before you fall all over yourself with insults I'm not here representing ebay but my experience as a seller and buyer on ebay. If you want a nasty brawl , go hang out in your favorite bar... IF the seller misrepresented the item there is recourse through ebay to get your money refunded. However , you must prove to ebay it WAS misrepresented. You can't just say, "it was misrepresented" or buyers would be buying on spec which they aren't. The common practice is that if a buyer doesn't like the item and wishes to send it back they DO pay return shipping. This helps stop buyers from buying , say clothes, wearing them and then claiming they don't fit or "I didn't think it was blue like the photo showed", and sending them back...
Now you're changing what you said. You said "if the item was not what you ordered." You didn't say "if you don't like the shade of blue in person that it was in the pic on ebay." Don't change your story on the fly.
I did not change what I said. I was giving an example of discouraging buyers from returning items for dishonest reasons. Ya, know, if you hate ebay that much, don't bid.
Who said I hated Ebay? I hate liars and people who change their story on the fly when called out. I would venture to guess I've been a member on Ebay longer than you have.
I know someone who bought a boat off Ebay and it turned out it had bad electrical wiring that wasn't mentioned in the add. He took it to Ebay and they made sure he got his money back.
I would add, mostly from company websites, when ordering an item you may be signing up for a "subscription", whereby the company will send you repeat orders every month and charge your credit card, even though you only wanted a one-time order. Buyer beware!!!
