When I hear the term "Welfare Queen" I don't think of black or brown people...if you do, then maybe you are the racist.

I'm not sure what she is talking about the middle class being screwed during the 80s...under Reagan's policies we saw 92 months of economic growth...the second longest in US History, under the Carter admin we saw 1.7 percent growth, under Reagan 3.5 percent. The middle class grew, not just the middle class, but people moved from the middle class to the upper middle class.

I guess that's upsetting to a socialist.

Dude, she just got into Congress....a run for President is a bit pre-mature thinking. But NO ONE can match what the Orange Oaf is doing to this country...and it ain't good!

And the women that Reagan inferred too in his speeches was Linda Taylor who ABSOLUTELY defrauded the welfare system in the amount of 100's of thousands of dollars and was prosecuted for her criminal activities. Reagan used her acts to show how flawed our social welfare system was/is and that it is easily manipulated and perpetuates non-productive citizenry.

 

White people can defraud the Govt of welfare too....not sure what your point is? Many have people charged and prosecuted as well.

The PBS op-ed misses a huge point, while the rich got their taxes cut under Reagan, the largest sector to get the biggest relief from tax liabilty was the middle class, lower middle class, and poor.

Linda Taylor was the exception, not the rule....but Ronnie's constant use gave the perception to a willing audience that she was. He didn't invent the term, but he did use it during a radio address. Nothing could be further from the truth. A monopoly is not capitialism. Moreover...the middle class is not dead...it's still around, and today, just as strong as ever. Thom Hartman is a radical, with no sense of reality. His op-ed does not have any real numbers....it's just opinion.

The reality is the 80s saw the second longest and largest economic boom in US history. MIllions of jobs created, an increase in real wages by roughly $20K/year in today's dollar.

 

Really? And you have valid proof they ran her campaign to obtain her seat in Congress? And while we're at it, please provide valid proof as to where she is wrong in the opening post's link. I'll wait.

 

I still don't see at any point that Reagan used race EVER in discussions or his speeches. Can you point to an exact moment he ever mentions race? He never even mentions Linda Taylor's name or that she is of color, EVER. He only mentions her crimes which were 100% accurate.

And Linda Taylor was the extreme case of welfare fraud, but welfare fraud in general speak IS the norm. It's being majorly abused to this day and him referencing Linda Taylor's crime was merely showing that an audacious person can reap hundreds of thousands of tax payer dollars. And his purpose of these discussion was merely how broken our system was/is.
