AOC is socialist. Is that bad?

I have no clue what you mean by 'superior'. Surely you don't mean simply numbers? Because if so, that would make cheeseburgers the most superior cuisine in the world.

 

That's the problem. Half the country doesn't understand math beyond 1+1=2, thinks that's all anyone really needs to know anyway, and has Fox News reinforcing that on a daily basis while also telling them that there are five lights.

I AM a 'Communist'. I've made that very plain here, multiple times. But I'm absolutely not a Leftist Progressive, or a Cafe Socialist.

More importantly though, I have zero interest in State Socialism/Communism. My interest is limited to voluntary communism only. Whether that's small scale (eg, a family living via common purse and mutual help, or a small business partnership), or larger scale like a religious community, an agricultural cooperative, or a plain old off-grid hippie commune. And more importantly still, I've actually lived in working communes (and still do, in many ways), so I have a very clear understanding of just what is involved in a non-surplus collective life. I'm under no illusions that's either a) easy, or b) for everyone.

Once again though, I'm not a poseur 'cafe' communist, who thinks it's all about wealth redistribution. I have zero interest in that crap.

 

And yet the middle class grew, the number of poor decreased, there was a massive welfare state without the usual tax burden becuase it was paid for by oil exports, indigenous rights were respected, literacy rates and life expectancy shot up, etc. Foreign capitalists like those you worked for were the only folks that felt any pain and to that I say good riddance. Then Chavez got cancer and was replaced by less capable men and then SA ordered all OPEC producers (including Venezuela) to ramp up production byond market needs to undercut US fracking and Canadian tar sands which crashed oil prices and (combined with US sanctions) crippled the economy. I'll fault Venezuela for making their budget over dependent on oil revenue but it wasn't socialism that caused the issues Venezuela is currently facing. The current situation is the fault of Wall St. capitalists that had their banana republic operation taken away by Chavez and greedy Saudi princes annoyed that North American oil tycoons were making more money than them.

 

In the case of AOC she seems genuine in the belief that Socialism will bring about equitable prosperity. Contrasted with the establishment Democrats who would use it as a means to consolidate and centralize government authority, I tend to think positively of AOC as a person.

As a politician, while her plucky, rebellious attitude may toss some welcome monkey wrenches into the Democrat machine, I think its more likely that her woefull ignorance will be used to co-opt her base into the establishment agenda of power over The People. Which is bad.

Sorry, but I know a bit about both countries, and NZ is a travesty! Every avocado you eat has been picked by some idiot high on a lot more than life. When the whistle blows and they can go back to their hostels, there are a slew of sluts they can pork.

Even a mediocre economist understands that you don't bring about prosperity for all by reducing the / MPC / marginal propensity to consume.

Progressive ideology represents nothing more than a fleet footed populace that faces the realization of diminishing returns on productivity.
Even 19th century slaves understood that their productivity was cooperatively distributed in an inequitable and discriminatory fashion.

Balderdash. They don't have bloated militaries that serve mainly to threaten the entire world but they can defend themselves against everyone but us. Sweden in particular is known for having a modern military and is one of our main competitors in selling arms around the globe. You guys truly live in a fantasy world if you think the Russians could really hurt any European nation and I don't even know what you're talking about with China, that makes no sense at all

Thus, what's the difference between "socialist" Norway and socialist Venezuela?

 

Too many takers looking for free stuff to make it financially viable.

That's the part about the Scandinavian model takers don't grasp. It's a lot easier for an almost culturally pure group of people to create the lifestyle and focus needed to make their type of socialism work.

In the US, we are a melting pot of cultures, so Scandinavian xenophobia couldn't be applied.

 

Oh please lots of countries with socialized medicine are culturally diverse.
