The opposition was mainly the Democrats. Republicans not for it held that states managed their own affairs and not the Feds.

How so? today their are less than 3000 Democrat KKK members and the Republicans made sure the KKK left the African American communities alone. Even setting up police and watch parties to keep Democrats from harassing and beating them.

Last year, Democrats attacked a black woman in a diner and forced her to leave and call the police. Then those same people hurled racial slurs at Black and Hispanic police officers. That was last year!

You can't escape history and your attempts to revise it will always fail. Too many of us know and have studied American history. especially Civil Rights and how hard Democrats (like KKK Grand Wizard, Robert Byrd) opposed it.

The Dems outvoted the Pubs in the North, West and South. Flat fact.

The Democrats created the KKK and tried to destroy Civil Rights that would include everyone. Those are facts.

No matter who says different, Byrd repented and became a civil rights leader, and because of that, the GOP attacks his memory and distorts history.

. . . who changed his ways and loved all of America, unlike both Thurmond and Trump.

No one has any facts to show the Dems started the KKK but plenty exist to show the GOP joined it in great numbers in Indiana, Ohio, Washington, and California.

No, he didn't. He made racist remarks all throughout his career and even as late as 2001. He had the KKK in his heart his whole life. That is why he tried hard to destroy the Civil Rights movement. He didn't believe in giving rights to people of color.

Duke voted for Hillary and Hillary supported that racist, Robert Byrd. She loved him and his beliefs.

Give us the facts to prove that. Be specific.

The facts actually prove that Byrd was a true patriotic American that came to oppose racism, unlike Thurmond and Trump.

Duke supports Trump, and we all know that.

They try and turn everything into racism and then revise history. Telling lies about the history of their party, the KKK their Democrat leaders and KKK members in gov't.... it never ends.

We live in the era of fake news. I miss moderates, too many far left progressives in the Democrat party today. John F Kennedy today mirrors what Donald Trump is all about. They have lost touch with these great men.

Just a few years ago the repubs called for the elimination of the Dept. of Education yet now they desire to keep Homeland Security so they can continue to spy on Americans...

Parrots and Eagles are both birds. But they are not all that similar.

You must read the records contained for this purpose by the Congress.

You act as if the Democrats against the law were against if for the same reason a few Republicans were. But the two parties did not share similar views at all.

Democrats flat resisted it on racist grounds. Republicans against it were for states rights to self manage.

Jake has to be speaking only of small government vs big government issues as to any change of philosophies. There he is correct. Republicans became the party of less government.

I am sure we can explain that change to Jake.

Jake, when the change happened, the Democrats did a wholesale flip flop on the thing we call government. They became the party of gigantic Federal Government. But the republicans actually did not change at all. They never were for the gigantic government the Democrats later became well known for.

Yes, Democrats and Republicans, "flat resisted the law," but enough Democrats made enough Republicans vote for it to make it law.

Homeland security spying on Americans? If you think they are the biggest threat to your privacy, I have a bridge to sell you in Narnia.

Democrats tried to filibuster it before it came to a vote, when that failed, ONLY THEN, did they have to support it, despite the fact that they didn't want to. Including the KKK member(s) in the Democrat party that led the effort.

Don't tell him, it's actually the NSA and of course Obama directed his FBI to spy on journalists and even the Supreme Court and members of Congress. . :)

    Comey was there, he knew.

Stormy sold her wares as a professional woman. She no doubt was compensated up front. If not she donated her services.

I used your arguments when it was Clinton's hide on the line but Democrats could never agree that he was a worse scoundrel.

Democrats by a far lower percentage agreed to make it law. But the Democrats simply refuse to admit their poor support for the civil rights law came close to causing it to never reach Johnson.
