Your job is worth as much as the market values it. "Income gap" is a bogus term since it literally means nothing. What is your solution? Setting the salary of everyone profession on the exact same salary? Congrats, you just killed productivity and, most likely, inflated the currency as well. Good job.

It's generally easier to identify a problem than solving it. What suggestions do you have toward solutions?

That's not my solution. The process should be to recognize the problem, and then to work towards solutions. Based on the poll, it appears that most recognize the problem. Do you?

OK, if you don't think there is a problem, then there is no point discussing a solution.

Of course there is, but first you have to tell me why this is a problem and what your solution is. ;)

It's a matter of changing social attitudes.
As a kid we all looked up to people such as doctors, accountants, lawyers, OK not so much lawyers, but we looked up to those who had worked and studied to get to the position they were in, it also gave us inspiration to work hard and achieve the same, I suppose rank is an adequate word. No, looking up has been replaced by jealousy and the cry of "He's got more money than me, he should give me some", then going out and protesting until the money is shared.
This removes the incentive to work hard as your money will be given to those who won't work hard, so why bother.
There are solutions but as this attitude is now so ingrained it won't happen overnight. First, remove all tax breaks for having children, you want children, go ahead, have as many as YOU can afford, not as many as you think the taxpayer can afford. Second, the Department of Workforce Solutions ( a contradiction in terms I know) needs to start doing their job. If there are job vacancies, no matter how menial and there are unemployed the Department isn't doing it's job. Take away the option to either work or just sit about getting welfare, welfare will only be given if there are no jobs, not if there are no jobs that the unemployed don't mind doing.
I live in an agricultural area and you hear the farmers saying that the only way they can get their crops picked is to hire illegals. They pay them a good wage but just can't get locals to do the job. The ability to refuse a job offer needs to be stopped. If there's a job, they get it and their welfare stops.
