America was built on self-reliance, not asking the taxpayer for charity.

In my case, it is 100%. I am trying to build a group of friends.

For hundreds of thousands of others, extensive and expensive help is needed. Here.

Sadly, people who need help are dying by hundreds of thousands.

Society should have helped people -- in USA people are dying from drugs (68,000 per year) and alcohol (88,000 per year). Very sad.

~ The best treatment for this group is private group therapy. Problem is that many addicted to drugs resist treatment until they are well along in destroying their life. No treatment works long term if the patient is not motivated.

I must admit that I do not know as much as a therapist. I am only a patient. I have experience of being Autistic 50 years, 27/7/365.

But USA is a barbaric Society -- it does not try to save lives of people in need.

I didn't used to be afraid to ask for help. The fear is increasing as I get older because I've had such awful experiences from asking for help. Now, if I can't do something, I try to research and find an answer (the internet is the introvert's bestie ;-) or jump in and try on my own. I realize that my reluctance is not the most assertive way, but it wins over feeling humiliated from asking the wrong person for help.
