I hope the Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy is successful. This review about the true cost of our public schools was very interesting.

I was very surprised to learn the true, or actual cost to the taxpayers of maintaining and operating many of our U.S. public schools. These costs are now becoming much too expensive for the average tax payer to deal with. Somethnig must be done to turn these costs around and make education much easier for everyone who has a child in school to afford.

For example, the actual cost of educating a student in the D.C. public school system has risen substantially and is now calculated to be $24,600 per child!

Perhaps the time has come to institute well-designed voucher system for the most expensive school districts so people can afford to send their children to less expensive private schools. As one member of our group has questioned, " Could someone please explain to me the reason you are against sending your kid to a private school that outperforms the public school in your area? I pay for my child to go to private, and I can't understand why school vouchers would hurt the people less fortunate than me to send their children to the same private school."

Let's face it. Without serious competition, the costs of operating our public schools systems will continue to increase until the property taxes are so high that few people will be able to afford to live in the communities these school districts now serve!

Here is a good example of the problems we are now faced with!

"For the current school year, the local operating budget is $831 million, including relevant expenses such as the teacher retirement fund. The capital budget is $218 million. The District receives about $85.5 million in federal funding. And the D.C. Council contributes an extra $81 million. Divide all that by the 49,422 students enrolled (for the 2007-08 year) and you end up with about $24,600 per child."

 

Yes, a public magnet school... suggested curriculum:

Inexperience- How to make it work for you
Betrayal- when and how to toss ideas & associates "under the bus" to best promote yourself
Blame Projection- or Blame Bush 101
Numbers- How to make 9% unemployment the new norm
Narcissism - how to use self-love for the social good
Class/Racial Division- best times and places to use it
Teleprompters 101- never leave home without them

 

You spend a lot of time and energy on that sort of stuff , don't you?

 

More like a disturbing "Hitler Youth" feel to it. a center to turn our innocent childrens brains into Liberal mush by indoctrinating them with progressive bullcrap.I guess doing it in the public schools isnt enough.

 

Not necessarily, but I'm very good at reading and retention and rarely focus on only one side of a political issue.

 

Then wait and see how these boys do in this school..

 

As long as they focus on the basics like math & science, I'm fine with it. But the 'morning affirmation' ceremony is a little troubling. Wonder if the auditorium was designed so they're all facing east?

 

Like we were told to wait and see how well Obama does?

Actually that's very good advice for naming public schools after ANYBODY. And has always been the rule... until Barack Obama came along.

Sort of like a mini domestic peace corps..

I think children need to contribute..60 years ago kids in farming communities knew what their contribution to the family was.

Now we tend to treat children as fashion assessories ..

 

Between that and Michelle Obama's eradicate fat kids program, it's no wonder our public schools have dismal academic records. These types of educational diversions do nothing to promote reading, writing and math.

Just more 'throw money at schools and hope it helps' mentality.

Wow ... this video is mind-boggling. All Obama voters and they didn't have a CLUE about who Pelosi, Reid, Frank and other well-known politicians were.

So the uneducated dummies were the ones he attracted simply b/c of his 'rock star charisma' and the educated ones knew exactly what he was....

I went to a middle school with a strict dress code. We didn't wear ties but they were paranoid about gangs and stuff so they literally wouldn't let us wear like half the colors that gangs somehow owned and we couldn't wear anything with a logo (my Star Wars shirts noooo!)...

It was stupid.
