Did anyone pick up Battlefield 4 yet? I have it for PC.

They changed things up a bit. It feels like a mish mash between Battlefield 2 and Bad Company 2. The guns are more realistic. The graphics are top knotch as well. They added an attack boat which is pretty fun. It adds a new element to the combat having the water be a part of the battlefield in a bigger way. Customization is also much improved and expanded.

Some problems I've found is, well, the game is a mess at the moment. Server crashes, client crashes, lost stats, corrupted saves, and other glitches have been a massive headache. Dice/EA have rolled out some fixes for a few things but there are still many bugs and things not working properly. I have no doubt they'll fix it, this isn't unlike the launch of Battlefield 3, but you'd think they would have learned something from that, not expanded on the problem.

Hardcore mode removes the minimap now. It also removes hit indication so you don't actually know if you're actually hitting the person you're shooting at. I can live with that, but I hate the no minimap thing because that actually makes a few of the upgrades and modules pretty much obsolete. For example, they split jets into two categories. There are stealth jets, which are supposed to be the fighter jet variations, and attack jets, which are bombers like the A-10. They did this in BF3 too, with the attack jets being on Rush maps, and the stealth style jets on the conquest maps. Now they are usually available in both rush and conquest as well as some of the new modes. That's all good.

    BUT

If ever there was a fatal flaw. They brought back bombs for the jets, which they had in BF2 but did away with in BF3. I was ecstatic when I saw that because I loved bombing in BF2. Problem is, the targeting screen is basically you looking at a small screen in the jet cockpit and hope that people have been spotting as it's basically just your regular map. That's probably more realistic but in hardcore mode there is no crosshair, so you basically have to guess where it is. It's a stupid mechanic. Jet pilots aren't flying and freaking guessing where the bomb would go. Arggh.

But it's super fun and will be better as they roll out fixes and patches and then the expansion packs.

Another caveat. For one of the expansion packs, they are remaking four maps from BF3, like they did with four BF2 maps in one of the expansions for BF3.

Problem is, they've chosen Operation Metro as one of the maps to remake. This map is basically a subway terminal, so it's just choke points along narrow corridors. It has no vehicles. Battlefield is a game you play because it has vehicles. It's the worst map in the history of Battlefield and they chose it among ALL the rest that are better to waste a remake spot on.

    /end rant

    Thoughts on the game anyone?

I played BF2 for a while but I'm a major Gear of War fan and I also got hooked in the COD franchise so I don't have much experience with it. However I'm burnt out on the COD series so I'm getting BF4 with my Xbox One.

It looks like a lot of fun so I'm really excited.

Good. Wait for it on next gen so that you'll have a good gaming experience. You'd be gimping the game by getting it for a current gen console.

Yeah I pre-ordered my Xbox One so I will have it in a few weeks. Hopefully there won't be too many issues with the nex gens and their servers in the beginning because I hate dealing with that crap.

I might rent an older one from red box or something just to get used to the nuances again. I play a lot of games and they are all similar for the most part but it's mastering the subtle differences that improves your performance IMO. Plus playing a game with vehicles is very different from the shooters I'm used to.
