This is a somewhat difficult post to write, and I am not sure it is in the right place. I am informed that most of the cases of this arise at over age 65, so I picked Retirement. On January 20, 2024 I suffered a significant attack of Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (embedded link). When I woke up severely dizzy around 4:30 a.m., after going to the restroom I took my temperature (normal) and my blood pressure (also normal, but when I had something like this years ago it had spiked. I saw my internist the following Tuesday, and a neurologist a week later. Since then , I have been recovering, with some issues. It is bad enough that I canceled a pending trip to Israel in March. Anyone hear of this?
Yes I've heard of it. It isn't life threatening unless you fall and injure yourself. But it can be debilitating. I get it from time to time, but it always goes away. I recall reading something like crystals form in your inner ear. If they break free and tumble around with head movement, they create a sense of imbalance or vertigo which is followed naturally by nausea as that is how our bodies are wired. It's almost a false illness, but your body doesn't know it. So it reacts. I recall reading about a method or series of head movements you can make while laying down that's supposed to cause all the loose crystals to go where they belong. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/treatment-tests-and-therapies/home-epley-maneuver
I woke up with an attack today. Notwithstanding, I played tennis and felt OK then. Then the next three hours were hell.
