Continuing on the line from Zosia's post about Bond (in current events section)...I wanted to find out what everyone thinks as to what actor they thought was the best Bond as well as what they though the best Bond movie is... For me, Connery was the best Bond. The way he portrayed him as a more laid back, yet rugged individual helped set the bar for the other actors to base their portrayals off of. For the movies, I would have to say my favorite one was From Russia with Love. It just consistently had parts where I wasn't sure what was going to happen next and the plot was actually pretty solid. Who do you think made the best Bond and what Bond movie was the best?
Some good actors have played the role since but for me Sean Connery IS James Bond. The first 'Bond' movie I saw was 'Goldfinger' first run in 1965 and through the eyes of of an eleven year old it was pretty awesome. It remains my favorite and I have watched it many times since.
From my perspective as a millennial I found most of the older bond films pretty boring. The dialog lacks a certain wit and the action is stale. Daniel Craig's bond is Witty, Gritty, and his scenes are action packed. And I'm REALLY Excited for the return of Q in the Skyfall. The gadgets are what make bond, bond. And Pierce Brosnan's interactions with his Q were some of the best scenes in Bond. I love the interaction between a science minded man who considers the physical and mental cost of each gadget he makes, and Bond, an action oriented man who treats the gadgets like toys. It makes for some sharp scenes.
BTW I heard an interesting theory that links all the James Bond movies together pretty well. They say James Bond, Money Penny and Q are all just code names. And when one agent dies or retires a new one assumes that name. It explains why James Bond is so timeless and can exist as a young man in the 60s as well as today.
The Living Daylights, with Timothy Dalton is by far the best Bond film. Probably one of the most overlooked ones too.
I'll let you all know after "Skyfall" Just for kicks, the theme song is not bad: Up to this point, I think "Goldeneye" and "License to Kill" are my personal faves.
Licence to Kill is my 2nd favorite - used to be my favorite, but The Living Daylights feels a little more "Bond", Licence to Kill strayed a little to far from the typical Bond format and feels a little more like a generic action film - which is my main complaint with the Daniel Craig Bond films. Goldeneye is definitely the best Pierce Brosnan Bond film, another one of my favorites.
I remember going to the broadway theater in Galveston Texas to see 'you only live twice' when I was a tadpole, and it's held a place in my memory ever since Oh and connery IS James Bond
