Maybe because Anne has one of the greatest voices ever and her sister was so hot and a great guitar player In fact back in the day Anne was hot too I love when she kicks up her leg and it starts to rock. I saw them a few moths ago with Joan Jet and Cheap Trick. She still looks good and still gives the leg kick
The Beatles had a "chunkier" sound which for me personally gave them the edge over the Beach Boys who often broke into high falsetto. BTW, I never rated the Rolling Stones very highly, they only had 3 or 4 big hits, they were more of a "rebellious icon" than a rock group. PS- Speaking of all pop records of the 1960's, many are being "remastered" nowadays and sound bloody awful in my opinion and I refuse to listen to anything that says "remastered" on it! Problem is I suspect a lot of remastered stuff doesn't say "remastered" on it at all, and kids today think they're buying the originals, but we old hands aren't fooled by it..
Oh I'm a terrible person as a fan in that so far as I can recall I've never watched them on any video segments. I just listened to their music. But that's not unusual for me. Aside from a few fleeting news segments on bands in my youth I have never actually watched any of them on a screen. I never cared what musicians look like. I either like their music or I don't. For some reason I sort of feel weird admitting that.
We all have different tastes in music I think one band is the best and you think another and so on. I think there is one test that brings a little clarity in judging the best. It comes when an event happens that is so significant that it attracts the top stars to perform for free, one following the other. Such an event was the concert after 9/11 in New York. The other which comes to mind was at Wembley Stadium for Live Aid. What Im saying is a performance that none of the stars present wanted to follow. My two are The Who in New York and Queen at Wembley. Sorry America, both are British but then so am I. PS. Both were on YouTube in the UK but now have been deleted.
To be somewhat objective, I'd have to say The Yardbirds. The Yardbirds are the band that bridged the first wave of the British Invasion with what become hard rock in the late 60's-early 70's, the golden era of rock music. Just take a listen to them from '64 to '68. The evolution of rock music is right there in one package. The Yardbirds broke up in 1968 with some booked gigs still to go in Europe. The group's guitarist, Jimmy Page, assembled some musicians, called themselves The New Yardbirds and played the gigs. After this, The New Yardbirds became Led Zeppelin and we all know how that turned out. BTW, Dazed and Confused was originally performed by The Yardbirds. It also appeared on Zeppelin's first album and was a standard part of their live set. The song was written by Jake Holmes.
Best concert I ever saw was the Whos 10th anniversary concert at Madison Square Garden and Queen at the Nassau Colosseum come in right behind Pink Floyd on the Wish you were here /Animals tour for 3rd. Yup all British top 3 for me
What do you mean by The Who's 10 th anniversary tour? The Odds& Sods tour in '74? If so, I saw that in Baton Rouge. Also saw Pink Floyd's Animals tour in '77. The best American bands I ever saw would be The Black Crowes '93 tour and Stevie Ray Vaughan in '87. Check out the you tube vid of him and his brother playing "Pipeline". They're both playing the same guitar! That was a Mardi Gras show on the riverboat President. Awesome show!
The opening group was Golden Earing http://www.quadrophenia.net/1974tour/0614.html When they went into listening to you and turned of the stage lights and trained all the spots on the audience the place went wild Best American group I ever saw was the 1st . That would be the Birds in 1967 followed by the Tubes
You must have a few years on me. My first concert was in 1972. I was 16. Back in the day, none of us had a car. We had to hitch-hike to New Orleans to get tickets, then hitch-hike to the concert weeks later. Great times. Was glad when I got a car, though.
Pink Floyd all the way. Dark Side of the Moon topped the charts for a week and remained in the chart for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988. I date young women, mostly in their early twenties, and Pink is still hugely popular even with their age group. Truly, timeless music. Whenever my dad heard the wordless vocals that close the album, he always said it sounds like she got her tit stuck in a ringer. I'm still not sure what that means.
Ridiculously awesome!!
Weezer doesnt' belong on a list of greatest anything. That said the other four are contenders for that title, with maybe "The Who" added to the list. U2, however, is the best rock band ever.

One of my favorite bands and heres my favorite albums by them
Hard rock Led Zep The Who Mountain Cream Rolling Stones great groups like the Allman brothers (talk about pure talent) Traffic, the Clash, and the Grateful dead were in different genres
There are too many to choose the best. I know if I choose, I'll be leaving out a bunch. We should at least have a time period to narrow it down a bit.
I think they were probably the best in terms of merit per song They didn't have near the output of the Stones. Mountain and Cream didn't last long but they were top flight. Everyone on LZ was a superstar and top five in their craft Bonham is routinely rated the best rock drummer ever with Plant getting lots of nods as a singer. Page not only is a brilliant guitarist, he's a tremendous writer and composer. and JPJ can play just about everything well.
The Band.. Such a night.
Seems to me some here are stretching the definition of a rock band Now here is a Rocker
Forgot about Joan Jett. Melissa Ethridge is right up there with her. Love them both. Id pick a couple bands from each decade. Stones, Led Zep, Beatles ( I guess) , Skynyrd...even though they are southern rock, the Who, Mountain, Grand Funk, Ramones, Black Keys, Sound Garden, Eagles, Pink Floyd, Queen, Van Halen with either lead singer, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Foo Fighters, NiN. just to name a few. =)
Heres another female rocker and a cute little pixie from right here on LI as is Joan Jett
