Biden Administration to close gun show loophole

Their goal is harassing honest people and hopefully turning into criminal some guy who sells to his neighbor or brother in law. It has nothing to do with stopping hard core felons from getting guns.

Anyway, gun controllers invented the term “gun show loophole” because gun shows have traditionally been places where private sellers could find potential buyers. Want to sell your son’s first .22 rifle because he’s graduated to something better? No better place to do that than a gun show. In fact, I bought my son’s first .22 just like that. It’s an old pre-1967 bolt action Remington Scoremaster. It had been the seller’s son’s first .22 as well, but he wanted to sell it. The rifle was a little beat up, but it functioned smoothly, and I bought it for $89. The guy told me it was a tack driver, and he was right. My son is grown now, but we both like that little .22 so much we had it refinished, and he’s saving it for his kids.

Gun control advocates don’t like private sales. They especially don’t like that private sellers and buyers can easily find one another at gun shows. So, they made up the supposed “loophole” in federal law. Then, being what they are, they blew it completely out of proportion as a scare tactic. They want the public to think that gun shows have no background checks at all when it’s really a few people doing what has been legal since the Republic’s founding.

They also don't tell you that the few firearms that felons got from gun shows were usually through a straw buyer-the same way felons get new guns from dealers. The last thing a felon wants is a guy he doesn't know selling him a firearm and then testifying to a jury that he sold the mope a gun or worse yet, a cop at that show seeing a felon trying to buy a gun or actually buying one from a private seller

Do you know how you can tell if a law review article or an editorial opinion on the second amendment is going to be bogus--it starts talking about all the deaths caused by gunshot early in the article. Those "facts" are absolutely irrelevant to a proper interpretation of the second amendment and has no use in evaluating what the founders intended but gun banners almost invariably clutter up their writings as if they are trying to justify crapping all over the obvious meaning of the second.

My response would be more to the effect of: Blame the gun free school zone's act, and the fact that police have no duty to actually protect you when they forcibly disarm you.

 

Their main purpose is something other than killing, and they kill and harm (I didn't even include traffic accidents leading to permanent injury) more people than items purpose built to kill people.

Still unsubstantiated and I have doubts about people who are not even very successful at using guns to defend themselves against common criminals being able to take on a foreign military armed with tanks and fighter jets.

 

Would it be more accurate to call it the unlicensed dealer loophole?

 

No. A gun dealer, by law, has a license, and he sells firearms owned by his business.
A private individual sells firearms from his personal collection.

And, while we're at it, lets belittle Biden's action on its merits:
"...if you sell guns predominantly to earn a profit..."
How does the federal government prove you sold, in private, any of your guns at any profit?

 

they only pretend to care about public safety. examine the laws they want (and as you know) it's nothing more than stuff that panders to the low wattage types that want something done, while harassing their political enemies (not felons)
