Hello everyone, I'm new here and looking for blood. I used to debate ferociously on FaceBook, but after doing so for several years, I just couldn't take it anymore. lol Too many liberals, not enough time in the day, and no one would ever do their homework (not even when I provided them links to do so). Anyway, I've been on a debate hiatus for about a year now and it's starting to get to me. Unfortunately, my friends don't appreciate talking about politics, religion or anything interesting... so my opinions are left to myself, a guy at work and my wife (who hates it). lol There are just too many things (debacles and atrocities) happening during this President's 2nd term to stay quiet. So, I hope the Conservatives are looking for a new teammate and the Liberals are looking for a new punching bag, because I really enjoy this kind of thing and look forward to getting more involved again. Anywho, my name is Kevin (thought, you probably already figured that) and I live in Northern VA, right on the outskirts of the DC beltway *gag*. Basically, I'm right smack-dab in the middle of everything: MD is a commie-state, VA is a bastion of hope for the East Coast, and corruption is seeping out of the veins of pretty much everyone in DC. Can't stand living here, but I can't say that it doesn't provide me with stimulating thought and interesting topics. Something's always happening around here. I'm a Constitutional Conservative who has an appreciation for history. I can't stand the Republican establishment, I completely detest the Democratic Party and I feel that we certainly need a 3rd party. I don't fully align with the Libertarian, but can certainly understand where they're coming from. I don't like where the country is going and I feel as though our options are pretty limited at this point. Does our vote even matter anymore? If not, then we need to seek out an alternative solution to this Socialist Utopia problem. So, I can't wait to meet you guys and jump right in. Should be fun!
Hello Kevin, welcome to Political Forum. I'm sure you'll find many topics of interest here. Enjoy the discussion.
I'm already aware of my friends take on politics - and they mine. Some are Conservative, some are Liberal. The problem lies in disinterest in politics, in general. Most are single-issue voters and I hate to admit it, but those in my generation do not pay attention to politics. They could care less about the (political) things happening around them, and when something unfavorable occurs, they get angry about it, but have no idea why said thing has occurred. They dislike talking about politics, because it makes them uncomfortable. I feel this stems from the old general rule of thumb that that one shouldn't talk about religion or politics in the company of others. Probably started by a Marxist to keep friends/neighbors from stirring up trouble over a tyrannical government. ;] Honestly, it's just the new American condition - ignorance is, after all, bliss.
Welcome Kevin. It is difficult to debate anything about the Constitution with progressive, secular humanist liberals because to them, it is a constantly changing document depending on their wants and desires.
I'm a Libertarian, so we might agree on some things and butt heads on other things. Welcome to the forum.
It seems I truly hate, despise and denigrate everything you approve of or stand for. We should get along famously. Welcome
It IS a constantly changing document that should be changed even more frequently because the Founding Fathers intentionally left it vague. I say 'intentionally' because most of them lacked the balls to be specific, just like lawmakers today.
People who claim to be strict constitutionalists also believe that Jonah lived in the belly of a whale for seven days.
People who believe the Constitution is a 'living breathing document' are narcissistically hedonistic which borders on psychopathic.
The Founding Fathers lacked a lot of things, dishonesty, cowardice, foolishness etc but "balls" were not among them. They left it "vague", but only in certain areas, because they were men of vision who knew the future would change and certain things would have to be able to change with it to preserve the things they wished to keep the same, like true freedom and real equality instead of the ersatz "words only" bs the conservatives are trying to shove down everyone's throats nowadays
lol, I'm glad to see a debate was sprung from my intro thread! A hint of things to come. ;] The Constitution was developed with change in mind, yes... but difficult change. The Founders didn't want Amendments to be thrown about, willy nilly, creating a Bible of a Constitution that would be on par with the size of the Affordable Care Act Bill. They wanted Amendments to be ratified much more difficultly. It would take time and 2/3 of both Houses to approve a vote and 2/3 of all States to ratify the Amendment. That, my friends, is an extremely difficult task... especially when we're as segregated (by a race & class war) as we are, today. Difficult, but not impossible... The last amendment was ratified in 1992. I'd say it's time for a few more.
What Amendments would you recommend, as this should quite nicely add to my understanding of your positions and political lean?
How many times does the Constitution have to be amended before you are going to understand that it is, indeed, a "living breathing document"? When are you going to understand that this country is about more than white, male, wig-wearing farmers.
I don't think you meant that they 'lacked' those things, but I think they wanted a Constitution and each member had to give a few things in order to get a few things. Maybe "balls" wasn't exactly the right word, but they knew they had to cave on various issues or leave things up in the air for future generations.
I would certainly support the following: 1. The rewording of Amendment 14. Section 1. 2. The repealing of Amendment 16. 3. The repealing of Amendment 17. 4. The repealing of Amendment 26. 5. The ratification of a Term Limit Amendment for Congress and Supreme Court members. 6. The ratification of a Tax Limiting Amendment that prevents Congress from imposing new taxes. 7. The ratification of a new Vote Limiting Amendment that permits all citizens who pay federal taxes to vote. Anyone who receives free benefits from the government should not be allowed to vote, as they can continuously vote themselves more benefits. Those in welfare are treated by the Democrats as slaves. They continue to vote for Democrats, because the Democrats continue to promise them more welfare. This is entirely the reasoning behind the 3/5ths compromise during the age of slavery. It was feared the slave owners would force slaves to vote for pro-slavery advocates, thus the end of slavery would never occur. This is happening now, under a new name and we should change voting habits to prevent it from continuing. Sounds harsh, but it should be necessary. Those are some of the things I'd support off the top of my head.
Please provide proof I ever said or even suggested this, otherwise, kindly retract your outrageous statement.
Welcome first. As a conservative what do you hope for the future? Be careful linking yourself to the uber-rich because they no longer really live here. Face the fact is that US citizenship for them is like a flag on a boat, it only indicates a point of origin. How do you think government can make things better?
