Stop with the canards the last year of the war the spending on them was $88 billion and the deficit was a measly $161B. And the tax rate cuts produced the huge increases in revenue that helped produce that paltry deficit. You have been shown this over and over why do you still deny it?

So which statement do you disagree with? Are you saying that Trump did not drop the ball on controlling spending or are you saying that the House does not write the budget?

Maybe you are just disagreeing with me because you can't bring yourself to not blame Trump for everything. That's not an enlightened place to be. Anyone that thinks that their party can do no wrong is an idiot.

The Fiscal year 2019 from October 1,2018 through September 30,2019 had a deficit that exceeded the budget by over one trillion.

"Budget deficit to break $1 trillion despite strong economy"

Deficits result from government spending, not from the strength or weakness of the economy. Ridiculous premise.

Guys! No presidents can be blamed directly for this number.
Socialist policies however CAN be blamed for it

What happens when a president vetoes a bill funding the government?

Every branch can offer their 2 bits worth on the budget, but the House has the unchecked power to reduce spending at will. There is simply no will to do that.

So long as so many Americans are dependent on massive government programs and bureaucracy a "government shutdown" will not be a politically viable option. Alas.

So the left in this thread OBVIOUSLY wants to cut government spending.

But would they follow through if Democrats controlled the WH?

    The bill doesn’t become legislation.

The Origination Clause, also known as the Revenue Clause,[1][2] reads as follows:

All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.

Spending bills including cuts in spending can also originate in the Senate. What part of the Constitution are you talking about?

My point is that the House does not need the approval of either the president or the Senate to cut spending and thus the size and power of government. Do you disagree?

Ah, if I am not mistaken, the President signs off on the budget, he approves what has been agreed upon in Congress, and seeing for two years Trump controlled Congress, you are attempting to tell us now that his trillion dollar deficits during good economic times is the Democrats fault?

And that closing down the Gov't because the House wouldn't give him the billions for the "beautiful, tremendous, thirty foot high, concrete reinforced Wall" that Mexico was suppose to pay for was Trump being fiscal conservative?

Sure they do if they want to see their proposals become reality, did you think spending measures leaving the House were automatically law?

Read again. "My point is that the House does not need the approval of either the president or the Senate to cut spending and thus the size and power of government. Do you disagree?"

The USG cannot spend without the consent of the House.

No legislation can pass without the approval of the Senate and the President. So yeah, you're wrong.

And if you were right, you would need to explain why the Republican-majority House didn't cut spending 2017-2018. Actually you should try to explain why the Republicans, who controlled House, Senate and WH didn't cut spending 2017-2018 ...

No spending bill can pas without the approval of the House. Get it? ;-)

Hence the "Father of The Constitution's" statement of the obvious in The Federalist No. 58:

“The House of Representatives cannot only refuse, but they ALONE can propose the supplies requisite for the support of the government....This power over the purse may, in fact, be regarded as the most complete and effectual weapon with which any constitution can arm the immediate representatives of the people, for obtaining a redress of every grievance, and for carrying into effect, every just and salutary measure.” (all caps mine)

Yeah, I get it. But you said
So how can the House cut spending if neither the Senate nor the President approves of the House's spending cuts?
