That sucks. First thing to fail in SoCal when it rains hard.....the traffic lights. That's always fun. I literally dug one of my cars out of the snow this morning, and was happy to do it, thinking about where I used to live.
Right premonition - different tree: http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/01/09/508919216/iconic-sequoia-tunnel-tree-brought-down-by-california-storm Dang, we lost our garage. Hey everybody - it's turned to snow!
Sorry, that was a joke - you have to look at the picture. OUR garage is still standing. But thank you for your kind response! (When my own redwoods grow large enough, maybe I'll turn them into extra rooms)
No kidding? Governor 'Moonbeam' strikes again. A few days ago I was making a joke that he would ignore reality....again.
Well...They are doubling the water releases from Shasta Dam because of this atmospheric 'river'.....The Calaveras Tunnel Tree just bit the dust too. I've got 50 to 80 ft tall pines on my property. They've been here for maybe hundreds of years. Unless they are dying (or maybe have a big friggin HOLE in them) chances are they'll survive. Good luck.
Reference to the above. I honestly think you are wrong, since at least around here, most fronts have a southwest-northeast orientation, although we see them with a southeast-northwest orientation. It's rare that a front is north-south. Here is what NOAA says about Atmospheric rivers. https://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/atmrivers/ Here is what NOAA says about fronts. http://w1.weather.gov/glossary/index.php?letter=f
We dig them with a tractor and fill them with fish. We call it a stock tank and use it to water our cattle.
Yes. We dig the hole and use the dirt to make a dam if necessary. We dig in a location where runoff rain water flows into the hole. After a few months, the rain fills the hole and we stock it with bass and/or catfish. The cattle drink out of it and we use the lower side of the dam as a backstop for when we shoot our guns. We fish out of it when we want fish once they are big enough.
