Burger King employee who never missed work in 27 years and got a backpack, movie ticket, and Starbucks cup as a gift [IMG]

I haven't eaten at a Burger King since they stop paying taxes when they bought Tim Hortons and move there corporate headquarters to Canada to avoid paying U.S. taxes?!!

This latest act by burger king is just discussing! I wonder with the bad PR, will Burger King step up?

Burger King employee Kevin Ford never missed a day’s work in the 27 years he spent as a cook at the McCarren Las Vegas Airport location of the chain restaurant.

So when he arrived at work on the 27th anniversary of his employment and joked around about the time he had spent working at the company, management scrambled to find a present to thank him for his hard work.

The present: a string backpack, a movie ticket, a lanyard, a coffee cup, and some candy.

Ford posted a video of him opening the presents and thanking his coworkers on TikTok, and it quickly garnered thousands of views and likes. While some viewers praised his positivity and humility, others viewers online expressed shock and dismay at the small reward he received after his many years of loyalty.

On the back of the video's success, his daughter Sernya Ford set up a GoFundMe page looking to raise just an additional $200 for him to visit his grandchildren.

“The man in that video is my father. He has worked at his job for 27 years and yes, he has never missed a day of work,” Ford’s daughter wrote on the GoFundMe page.

She noted that Ford had originally begun working the job as a single father and has continued to work there due to the health insurance package provided by the company.

"My dad continues to work here because though he does look young, he is coming up on retirement age, and leaving would cost him his retirement," she wrote, adding "In no way are we asking for money or is he expecting any money but if anyone feels like blessing him he would love to visit his grandchildren."

And people cannot figure out why we have a shortage of workers. It’s a mystery.

"got a backpack, movie ticket, and Starbucks cup as a gift"

Oh, and he got this too-

"and has continued to work there due to the health insurance package provided by the company."

Health insurance for a burger flipper, and even that's not enough, because it's never enough.

They will ALWAYS bite the hand that feeds them.

What people can't figure out is why the left has the house, senate and presidency and still choose illegal immigration over passing immigration reform that allows the good ones to come here and work.

No but the company should know better in this social media age. PR is paramount. Company tried to do good but also in a PR mess.

I love Burger King. They also still have to pay taxes for sales made here in the states. You’re taking this way out of hand. If the guy has stayed at Burger King that long he obviously likes it there so why do you even care?

If he never called out sick, he is definitively not eating there!!!

If he is getting health insurance and retirement, it must be a good job.

It surprises me that taxes are lower in Canada than the US.

If he's worked there for 27 years and never missed a day of work, imagine how they treat everyone else. Hopes this deals with all the confusion about why people don't want to work at fast food restaurants.

I dont get what all the fuss is about. Is BK forcing him to work there?

Has anyone here complaining about his situation donated to his GoFundMe? Or do you just want to raise taxes to force other people to make his life better to make you feel better for you?

How many votes does it take to pass something in the Senate? How many votes do Democrats have?

I don’t disagree with your premise though, the Democrats are ineffectual and incompetent. It is just intellectually dishonest to act like this is Democrats fault alone.

Yes. It's been said for decades, "You don't get what you think you deserve -- YOU GET WHAT YOU NEGOTIATE!"

When you go in for the job interview, no matter what the job is -- make certain that you make it clear what your compensation expectations are -- and if you don't have any expectations, then SHAME ON YOU!

YOU are the 'captain of your ship' -- so, don't go and sink the damned thing through your carelessness and stupidity!

How do you work that long and not run the place? What’s the top pay for that position? This isn’t supposed to be a forever job, good for him if he likes it but most people move on rather quickly. Who married this guy and was like “no, that’s fine I’ll earn all the money you just wear that apron”?

I assume he got 27 years of paychecks and insurance with that job as well. Sounds like the manager or someone was just trying to do something nice for someone they didn't know had worked there that long.

I personally couldn't work at our local BK. Have no problem with the chain. The local one is kind of the dumping ground for people in jail who want work release. I just don't think it would be a good fit.

We have a shortage of workers because the government pays people to not work.

The people taking the money are lazy and expect more from their employer than they deserve. Somehow, getting paid just isn't good enough.

As inflation rises, unemployment drops, as a general rule.

Expecting a living wage for working half of their waking life isn’t more than they should expect. It’s the bare minimum.

Why would anyone work full time to make less than $300 (pre-tax) a week for childcare to take $283 [source] of it and rent to take $421 [source]?

So how was he careless and stupid? I don't see anything in the story where he was expecting anything. Seems you're going on an unnecessary rant?

Well, first off, Burger King does pay taxes in the US or the Feds would shut them down for not making payroll taxes.
So thats a pretty big lie right there.

And I think it was the employees who bought him those gifts, not Burger King so hats off to those who worked with him and taking the time to letting him know what they think of him.

As far as working a BK for 27 years, I mean, what are they supposed to do? He isn't in that corporate world with golden parachutes. He's a burger flipping employee.
I would think a nice cash incentive would be nice to show others who work there how supportive BK is but its their call. I think its a mistake not to do something for him by the company but its not unheard of.

And isn't BK a franchise? So that would fall on the owner of this particular BK and not BK corporate.
Who by the way also pays taxes

So many wrong claims in this OP
