I've had both over the years. An 18" dish back over 20 years ago.
It was definatley finicky. If there's a snow storm ... No dish.
Even if you go out and wipe snow from the dish. Plus in the Mornings
of a Cold Front frost forms on the dish.Plus the intermiitten problems from Sun Spots.
But then Cable requires use of Satellite dishes back at their home
base for transmission to cable customers. So when there are really sunny afternoons, a cable connect MAY be effected.
The problem now is ... How the Conglomerate Cable Giants are able to
use Smart Technology to control your ever cable box move at the flip of
a switch back at home port.

Neither. Everything is moving over to the internet now. I'd suggest getting the fastest internet you can find (at my last apartment I had 150mbps for $60/mo). Use that to watch pretty much everything.

I see no point in getting cable these days. They keep adding more and more commercials to the point where you watch TV for a half our and only get sixteen minutes of content. F it, right? Go digital, and use netflix or other such services. You'll end up saving money, wasting less time with commercials - I just find it to be all around better.

    I totally disagree.I like options.As many as possible.I bought a Blu-ray player around
2 years year ago and had to shelve it.It kept prompting me to Register and
then use Netflix.I refuse. There's a reason. On that remote The biggest button was
the Netflix button.Square in the middle of the doggone remote.Every time I used
the Blu-ray player I had to bypass their mandatory registration process.
I went back to using by older Sony DVD player.Which works like a charm.
No registering or bugging the user whatsoever.Just Playing DVD's.
It's like trying to read an article from certain old lion press sites.Like the
Wall Street Journal { they sold out }.You have to register first. Why should that be
necessary.I'm not interested in being a fellow member of the Wall Street Journal
users.I just wanna read yer latest drool. Not Posting or being any member of a
WSJ chat group or message board { do they even have one ? }.
Just trying to read yer infernal { now more than ever Liberally strewn } articles.
It'd be like going into a bar and being told what beer you should order.
No,no no.We have Miller light but we highly suggest you order the Fallstaff.
Or maybe Lone Star but only if you leave a tip.

I use cable. People in my area have all sorts of issues with satellite service, one of the biggest is they tend to screw you over in the end. For me there is really no difference in price because I have so many rooms with TV boxes in them. I bundled by telephone/internet/cable and basically get the internet for free compared to my pre-bundle cable and landline rates.

My neighbor is always complaining about his direct tv. The only times we have issues save a storm taking out a line is when it is just super windy for hours. Their transmission signal to the local hub will start getting severely degraded on many of the stations, but that only happens once or twice a year.

    same here :)

Given that I can watch any series or news show i want at any time i want (couchtuner) and I can watch japanese and korean dramas too I dont see any reason why i should get cable.

I used to have cable and landline. But when in a one month period everybody called my cell and the phone never rang I began to rethink things.

Local tv with digital "rabbit ears" and internet. Cable isn't available and satellite is expensive. Slo DSL is my only option. Sometimes too slow for streaming video.
