Trump is all about the agenda - he will work with whomever he has to work with to achieve his agenda. I don't care who he works with to get the job done - IMO there's no difference - RNC or DNC There are more and more voters like me who have rejected both parties in favor of anyone with an anti-Washington agenda.
Yes increasingly the tactic is to redefine what 'getting the job done' looks like because he can't accomplish anything resembling his platform promises that require more than an executive order. Now its about getting ANYTHING done he can put his name on. If he works too closely with Dems as experienced in the legislative system as Pelosi and Schumer, that 'anything' will look an awful lot more like what Hillary would have gotten through, than the GOP ever expected. This is full of sweet irony, but it is dangerous to Dems. The tactic so far has been to deny him any credibility by denying him victories, exactly like what the GOP did to Obama. I don't think we should step far away from that strategy. If Dems get offered a really sweet deal, which will major and lasting impact, they have to grab it, but its really about a coalition with those few GOP moderates which Trump gets to rubber stamp for the cameras. He's a little boy who needs some positive reinforcement, now and again to get him to do what he is told.
Trump is all about ego gratification. He need to win, and it doesn't matter what, how, or with whom. Winning with a Republican agenda or a Democratic agenda is about as significant to him as winning with black or with red in one of his sucker-fleecing casinos' roulette scams .
