Can Trump order US companies out of China?

Not really but he doesn't expect them to comply. This is simply one of many missiles launched in the trade war. He wants China to feel an economic threat whether it is real or not. By the way, Chinese imports are only 2.7% of the American economy. The trade war for us isn't really an economic war at all. The important aspect is to attack and try to change China's behavior about technology theft and other things.

 

I think Trump's threat is also a signal to American companies manufacturing in China that the heat is turning up and he is giving them another reason and incentive to start looking for alternative sources.

 

I agree. It is all positive, contrary to what the Trump haters think.
