....Bob the Builder and Comrade Corbyn are seeking a solution to this crisis as Bob's cat Pilchards' Whiskas Temptations voucher was rejected at poundland!! Pilchard was seen scurrying to Downing Street last night for talks with Larry the Cat but when a spokesmen for Larry was asked if he could fix it he replied "no he can't!"

I heard you the first time....:).....and yes about 43,000 worldwide....
It imagine that most will be absorbed as the contracts get taken over by other comapnies.... but who knows what the final outcome will be...sucs... but seems they screwed up royal on a number of contracts. Looks like there management was just out of control

    OP

So much for Blair and Brown's vanity project, the so-called 'Northern Powerhouse'? Whoever would have thought that would crash and burn when they first heard of the project? Well me, for one! But at the risk of repeating myself . . . it's only taxpayer pounds, and there's plenty more where that came from!

Edit. It reminds me of the question I ask on here sometimes: 'How do you get rich beyond your wildest dreams?' Answer: Get yourself a government contract and they'll chuck so much money your way that you'll get sick of the sight of it.

I think you'll find it was conceived by Blair and Brown, and because it sounded so dynamic and right-on it was then continued by Bill and Ben.

Everyone knows the structural problems: North/South; exaggerated influence of London etc. New Labour went for devolution. Its the Tories that pretended the Powerhouse is meaningful change.

There are differences in levels of economic rationality. New Labour adopted neoliberalism, ensuring economic irrationality that limited its impact. Very different under the current Labour Party. Rational policies, with a focus on investment, are adopted.

What I mean by '****ing useless' is that no matter what initiatives they dream up, or whatever else they get themselves involved in, it always ends in failure at best and unmitigated disaster at worst - and at tremendous costs for the taxpayer. For instance, I'm not a betting man, but I'd bet seriously big bucks that HS1 & 2 will crash and burn just when they've finished the enforced acquisition of farms and houses, and so none of that nightmare for the owners will have been necessary. To be honest, they're so useless that I actually believe there's something going on 'at the top' that I can't put my finger on, and that they're not really useless, they're fulfilling some kind of agenda.

A silly comment isn't it? We wouldn't even have a British economy if it wasn't for government interventionism (enabling infant industries to flourish). Also easy to refer to great achievements: e.g. the NHS

The problems with rail are typically the result of insufficient government involvement!

The crisis was encouraged by a lack of intervention in those markets: its like they read the satanic bible and decided "do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law"

I assume you're refering to the sub-prime implosion...I think you're being very polite....more like S&P and Best etc being shown the satanic bible and saying..."yup looks good to us A+ rating on that.....whatever it is....not sure... but hey I'm a convert!"
Oh yeah and that lad in the AIG office in Mayfair... can't remember his name now....wrote any stop loss you chucked under his nose as long as there was a good lunch in it!!

Edit... remembered his name Cassiano or something?

Maybe all those people they were expecting to buy houses as the United Kingdom's population was surging turned out not to have the money to buy them.

The company also made too many commitments to its worker's pensions it couldn't keep.

Some are calling for pensions to be much more clearly separated from the parent companies so that worker's lives are not ruined by companies failing to provide the promised pensions.
