Not sure how I feel about this one. We have a right to keep and, I know, most people forget this portion, bear arms.

However, that doesn't give anyone license to point it at people, cops or otherwise.

Is there video of the shooting? Anything more then two conflicting sides with no real witness on the deceased's side?

Also, the race part of this is getting out of hand. I am generally anti-cop and anti-authority when it comes to killing civilians. But to claim that race is part of this is disingenuous nonsense and dilutes the entire discussion down to a granular, idiotic and impossible to debate level.

Cops aren't hunting black people. That is sheer idiocy.

Blacks also aren't a hivemind that only operate on the same level as the next black, and homogenizing them like that is also sheer idiocy.

In any case, a man is dead, and, everyone should see that as the tragedy it is, until more details or a video emerge.

Pretty hilarious that you want others to wait for the lawful investigation before drawing conclusions and yet you have already come to the conclusion that the shooting was the victims fault.

Once again a criminal doesnt obey what the police order him to do, and he ends up dead. No reason to blame the police at all!!!!

Except of course at this point there is no actual evidence that the cops ordered him to do anything.

I haven't made up my mind yet. Sorry to disappoint you. At this point I'll take the current police report as the authority here. If verifiable information comes forward to impinge either side, I'll shift my opinion accordingly.

No matter how it is spun it appears the cops shot a black man who was not even the person they were loking for and who did absolutly nothing to threaten the cops.

Read your post again where you say the victim was stupid. And why would you take the police report as the authority before an actual investigation has been performed. You have obviously already formed your opinion without waiting for actual facts.

What bothers me is that some news sources are already running the families side as if it were already verified fact. It isn't.

So you have condemned the police as wrong, when as admitted in your very next post, you dont even know if they did or did not order him to do anything? You do not know all the facts? LOL. You are a hypocrite.

In case anyone was wondering, this is Exhibit A. Uneducated, ignorant, loud. Very bad combo lol.

What law can you confirm the "criminal" broke? Any in specific? Did you read the part where the cops were there to serve a warrant to someone else?

I dont believe law enforcement is ever going to change in any dramatic way. They are acting in most cases, how any reasonable person would act if they were in these various situations. In many of these cases where the officer just does not know if they have a gun, but knowing they are so easily accessible, its a simple matter of "If I am right and dont shoot Im dead, If I am wrong and shoot then Ive shot an unarmed person, but I am alive". Self preservation kicks in. Officers are just like any other person. They have every emotion we have, yet are in a unique situation to not just be a target, but to confront those whom most people would run away from, or ignore entirely. You will never remove self preservation from officers. Regardless of policy, the vast majority will shoot a person who reaches into a vehicle, after they told them not to, with the understanding of what I just quoted. I dont blame them given the job they have, and how many officers lose their lives or get hurt, to people reaching into vehicles, or pockets, after being told not to.

A gun goes from a pocket or a vehicle, to in your face with the trigger pulled in less time than it takes to blink your eye. By simply waiting until they "see" the gun, they have already doomed themselves to being shot. They know this. Any reasonable person knows this.

Of course they did.....and Tulsa police found PCP.
And even if they did and it's an open carry state, what difference does it make......oh yeah, he pointed it at the police according to........the police.
Funny how that always works out.

CNN has it buried at the bottom of the article...Scott died at Carolinas Medical Center. A gun he was holding was found at the scene, police said.

They moved it near the top now.http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/21/us/charlotte-police-shooting/index.html

Ah yes everything is a conspiracy it makes more sense multiple police thought a book was a gun.. Twice.

Nice story. Self preservation aside, this is an armed nation. We have a right to keep and bear arms. Simply doing so should not be rewarded with summary execution by fearful cops.

Our police should be trained on how to efficiently and nonviolently handle an armed public, because that's exactly what they are policing.

If they cannot be trusted to consider OUR rights, then they shouldn't be public servants, now should they?

We hear so much about the 2nd amendment and the right to bear arms, but in these discussions, everyone is so absolutist to give the officer the benefit of the doubt in almost every case. Why can't we ask that police be trained to handle civilians while also knowing their rights and being trained to respect them?

If I have to respect the officer, he must also respect me, I'll respect his rights, but he also has to respect mine.

Doesn't matter if he broke the law or not. If you wield a gun in front of an officer its going to cause concern. This is a reasonable response. Refuse commands at that point and you are going to be a perceived threat to any reasonable person.

By having the weapon out and not holstered is a broken law in and of itself in most cases. More information will be needed to ultimately determine if this is a good shooting.

Open carry does not mean you can wave it around or threaten someone with it.. Funny how some people have no clue what laws are.

Read my post above - I never said it was fine to point a gun at anyone. Actually, what I said was this -

Added emphasis so you don't misrepresent what I said.

Additionally, I believe we have a second amendment right to keep and bear arms. I also believe in accordance with those inalienable rights, that our police need to be trained to handle an armed public in a safe, acceptable and nonviolent manner.

Don't you think that logic can work in the reverse also if you're black or are the police always right.

"Good" shooting? Sorry, I take issue with anyone taking a pack mentality that a shooting is "good" or otherwise. That's a rather morose and morbid stance, and pervades with the Us vs. Them BS that needs to be struck from the registry of opinions on these matters.

This is not an us vs. them issue. This is an issue of the police choosing to shoot someone who was armed. Do we know if he broke a law? You called him a criminal. Why? You're not a criminal until convicted of a crime. My question to you was simple - how can you call him a criminal if you can't tell me what law he broke?

I stand by my assertion. This is an armed public, we have a second amendment right to keep and bear arms, and the police need to be trained to handle an armed public in a safe, respectful and nonviolent manner.
