I didn’t bring this up in the OP because I am more concerned with why a bank would give this kind of information free Willy. The only thing that makes sense to me is China influence. No American bank would just say here you go and try to undermine a sitting president like this without some sort of pressure, or so I would hope.

All that quote says is the bank record "solidify the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into the family’s international business ventures." That careful wording doesn't tell us much.

If no American bank would hand over this information then why would congress request it? Was congress trying to be super sneaky and get cooperation from the Chinese government knowing no REAL American bank would honor their request?

That is what the article was designed to do and you fell for it. Just because the bank was founded by Chinese immigrants in the 1960s you think China is somehow involved. That happened way before I was born and to think that just because some company founded by immigrants from China 60 years ago have any allegiance to China without any evidence is crazy. Do you realize how many American corporations, especially in the financial industry, have offices in China?

I am no fan of Biden but I really do not see any evidence in this article that even remotely proves that Biden did anything wrong. At best this article tries to stir the pot with speculation. I think Fox should be ashamed they wrote this trash.

You seem confident, what do you think was in those records? Why not just say the bank records proves that Biden lied and received payments. Why use words like solidify which means different things depending on how you want to interpret it? Why such coy language?

Here is my final and most important question for you and anyone here. If you TRULY believe the Cathay Bank is control by the Chinese government, why is there no republican politician demanding that we shut the bank down? Congress is in an uproar about TikTok tracking our eyes to place a filter on our video or accessing wifi but don't care the Chinese government is running one of America's oldest banks?

You realize that many banks and corporation in general have offices in China. Here are a few from banking. Why did China not command them to release the document if you think the Chinese overlords control these companies?

• Morgan Stanley Bank International.
• SPD Silicon Valley Bank.

Hell Trump had a verified Chinese bank account during before/during/after his presidency !!!

Are we referring to the immigrants that originally created the bank 60 years ago because Cathay General Bancorp is publicly traded (CATY). Anyone can be an owner simply by buying shares. The largest owner of CATY is Vanguard (9.3%) so if you own Vanguard funds you are probably an owner of Cathay Bank.

Let's get serious here. Why do you think Johnson said "Chinese American owned"? Which other publicly traded companies would you refer to as "Chinese American owned"? He used that term because he knows it will set off his base. Anything associated with China is now evil so let's append Chinese owned to it simply because 60 years ago it was founded by Americans of Chinese heritage.

You did not answer my most important question. If Cathay bank is being controlled by the Chinese government why is no one in government trying to shut it down? I think if you thought seriously about that question you would realize that is this a made up story meant to enrage a certain group of readers or viewers because I have worked my entire career in financial services and if I thought the Chinese government was controlling an American bank beyond regulations imposed in their country, I would want them shut down.

Yep, why didn't China "voluntarily" release Trump's banking records? This whole story doesn't hold water, other than where it comes from, Fox News and hypertpartisan Senator Johnson, who is playing to his base. There is literally nothing out there in the news on this story that isn't from ultra RW media.

 

If you believe that China had nothing to do with it then that’s fine. I’ll take that response. However, if they did have nothing to do with it we still need to figure out how it got into congresses hands. That information shouldn’t be just given out.
