Fatigue Syndrome Study Is Retracted by Journal

Sooo, we still don't know what causes about a million people to be lazy butts. I don't have any scientific data yet, but may I be among the hundred thousandth to suggest that perhaps welfare is a culprit for "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?"

It goes well beyond simply being lazy, and has no correlation to income level before onset. Perfectly productive, employed people develop it and suddenly become unable to work due to it. I've known people who have it... and I cannot see how they could feasibly be expected to hold a job. How would you be able to function if you got no rest from sleep?

I think the symptoms of "chronic fatigue syndrome" are real, and that it is likely has a variety of causes. Many disorders, especially the more subtle ones, are poorly understood or investigate by medical science.

It would be a shame to just tell people that feel they are suffering that there is nothing wrong with them. I have no doubts that withholding disability payments will result in some suicides. At the same time, of course, the recognition of a medical syndrome that cannot be objectively diagnosed presents the clear opportunity for abuse.
