Are we on the path or already deep in the trenches? There has been so much talk about a second Civil War over the years in the US that the topic even surpasses Dooms Day prophecies attached to Biblical sources in the Book of Revelations. The truth is the US is and always has been in a state of Civil War dating back to the original Civil War. North/South, Republican/Democrat, rich verses the poor, government verses civilian, capitalists vs socialists, communism verses fascism, nationalism verses open-borders, church verses the State, family values verses women's liberation, the death penalty, abortion, you name it we are a nation divided.

Even on foreign relations we cannot find common ground. Are our trade agreements good or bad? Is outsourcing good or bad? Are guest worker programs good or bad? Is US taxpayer sponsored foreign aid good or bad? Is welfare good or bad? Is minimum wage good or bad? Is having the largest prison population and the highest recidivism rates good or bad? Is marijuana being classified a schedule one drug good or bad? Is paying the highest cost for pharmaceutical drugs good or bad? Are ballot access rules good or bad? Is Home Land Security worth its cost? Does the 1033 program make us safer? Should we be more committed to our allies then we are to maintaining the infrastructure of our own nation? The list is endless and without any common ground. These differences leave us so confused about the national identity of the US that we just had and election with a (red) Dixicrat Democrat and a (blue) Rino Republican. WTF?

Instead of having real News, we have liberal media and conservative media. And cherry-picked classified information is being selectively leaked directly by intelligence sources and White House aids to the media depending only on having anti-POTUS personnel in the know. Heaven forbid a sitting President (the only one with authority to declassify information) releases classified information to the public to support his policies. There has always been a war between State government and Federal government. So lets not bother to predict "when" a Civil War is coming, unless we are just trying to predict when one of the next current Civil War's landmines are going to explode.

Lets instead debate our current and ongoing Civil Wars to define our national identity. The US is a far-right nation by comparison to the rest of the World. Even our far-left is actually to the right of other right-leaning nations. We claim to be the leaders in promoting Democracy around the world but other global democracies don't buy it because they see what other puppet governments we set up and support in the world. We are not a true democracy, and that is mainly to do because our nation is a collection of States, each with an equal voice in our federal election process, regardless of size or population. To even decide if we should support the State over the Federal government or vice versa we first have to identify which not only holds our personal interests but also the overall national interests in the best interests to make us stronger, safer, more prosperous, and happiest. Which side is going to provide the best future for our children? Which side forgets the elderly once they retire and takes away all their savings to redistribute it to foreign nations? Does anyone really think the greedy will stop being greedy once they have acquired enough to be self sufficient? That kind of naive thinking would violate the fascist nation the US has become. Just look at these mandated insurance policies that don't pay off and cost more than not having any insurance at all. Just look at the tax plan that generates revenues from hard working people to spend money as they please with not only making spending decisions without taxpayer input, but often makes spending agreements that tax payers don't agree with.

Your house is not your home if the government can issue search warrants and seize it whenever they desire. Your property is not your property if every year you are expected to pay property taxes on it. Divided we are, and by being divided we are being conquered. Nation unification is practically impossible and we (via taxpaying) have funded our own adversary. But we don't see it like that because we believe the lies they tell use, the lies that they have the people's interest in their hearts. They pretend to be just as divided as the divided public they depend on to keep funding their war campaign against us. Now let's look for some serious contrast to compare this with by going all the way over to what we're told is communist Russia (where in a communists State it really is the government that has everything and civilians just get enough scraps to survive. In Moscow they have underground bunkers big enough to accommodate the entire population. Do you think the same is true anywhere in the US? Do you think they reserved bed space for you if calamity hits here? Or let's look at hospital beds per capita globally and we find that the United States ranks #80 (citation: http://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/stats/Health/Hospital-beds/Per-1,000-people). Unemployment rates per capita globally the United States ranks # 53 (citation: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2129rank.html). Median household income in the United States at least we make the top-ten list at # 6 (citation: http://www.gallup.com/poll/166211/worldwide-median-household-income-000.aspx). This is what's really happening while we sit around pointing fingers at each other, divided. And it's not as if the money isn't here, the United States is still the top wealth holder in the world, both over all and per capita (citation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_wealth_per_adult), but our fascist system really places us at #13 (citation: https://www.gfmag.com/global-data/economic-data/worlds-richest-and-poorest-countries). We really need to pull our heads out of the sand-box here and realizing that we're at war already (and as Mr. Wednesday put it), and we're losing.

We're not heading to a civil war as much as we're heading into decline as a nation, and decline exacerbates all the splits and tensions of society.

Any war is blood and death.Only insane folks can desire it.But lefts make anything possible to accelerate its coming. The best solution to avoid it is abolishment of Kennedy's Immigration Act 1965, attracting more white people and stop of immigration from the Third World. The higher is amount of whites the lower is probability of kindling civil unrest.

Today, 99.99999% of Americans did not march, or protest, or freak out about public policy.
Tomorrow, 99.99999% of Americans will not march, or protest, or freak out about public policy.

There are several hundred thousand Americans who freak out about everything, and that's what you read in the headlines and in the blogs.
They are the extreme pessimists. They live here. And places like this.

I'd say there are at least several million average Americans who freak about things on a regular basis.

Unfortunately there are also a few hundred Americans who are PAID to freak out about everything, everyday on cable "news". then there are the few thousand Americans and others who are PAID to freak out on social media about a plethora of cause celebres.

Of course few of them are ever really engaged in the active face to face confrontation that a public demonstration creates.

Most people are either not smart enough or they're too busy with their lives to see long term changes to government, society, and culture.

A long-term trend throughout the 20th century was the increasing size and scope of the federal government. Government is like a cancer. It will grow and grow until it threatens to kill the host body. At that time we'll have a revolution. I think that's about 200 years from now. We're in the fat, dumb, and happy stage right now.

A lot to think about. I agree with some and disagree with some but do appreciate the time it took you to post this thread. I hope some good arguments come out of it pro and con. We seem to be a nation that shouts at each other than talks to each other. One thing I have learned since I have been on the forum is "when you think you know, you don't know and when you think you don't know , you know".
