Cleaning Up Air Pollution May Strengthen Global Warming

What the hell? pollution causing COOLING? What the hell happened to this green house theory used to explain the warming now they are using it as the reason for the Cooling?

Dam I cant keep up with it

it started out as global cooling then after that didn't happen this so called science went to global warming and when that stopped they went to the cover everything climate change now we are going back to the global cooling
Until this so called science gets their act together make up their mind what they hell is happening are we warming? are we cooling? best to be ignored given no credibility

The Time cover about global cooling that went around was fabricated by trump or one of his buddies. It never existed. That has been proven.

Given that trump has another fake Time cover at one of his resorts [also proven] it isn't hard to guess who was behind it.

Carbon Dioxide and methane are gasses that trap heat but allow the light to pass. This turns the atmosphere into an oven. Particulates like those found in other forms of air pollution can block light and help to shade the earth.

One of the options considered to help reduce global warming is to release particulate that will help to block the sun. Alcoa patented a bright-white aluminum oxide powder that can be added to jet fuel and released when the jet burns the fuel. The particles are so small that they will stay at 30,000 or so for up to years. Being bright white they will reflect a great deal of sunlight instead of letting it pass through to heat the earth.

The key is to use particulates that are not harmful to life. Pollution is usually toxic to life, which is why it is called pollution.

 

Here is a simple and safe rule of thumb when it comes to pretty much anything science: Ignore anything coming from the right wing or right-wing sources like Fox, hate radio, blogs...

In the 70s there was some thought about global cooling but it never amounted to much. The evidence and scientific models ruled that out.

Aerosols cause cooling. Greenhouse gases causes warming. It's the net effect of both that matters.

Flashback to the climate crisis of the 70's when all the "experts" thought we would be going into a ice age because pollution would block all the sunlight from reaching the Earth. Then Al Gore and Micheal Moore told them they were 180 out. I guess it is true that what old is new again

I bet if the Democrats in the Senate also continue the shutdown of the Department of Urban Development and the Department of Education - also at the top of the hit-list at over 90% shutdown each - that'd REALLY help in terms of global warming, climate change, or whatever else they end up calling it this year. In fact, if 90% of federal administrative government employees were laid off I bet it'd save the planet.

I would not be holding my breath depending on the EPA. This is the same EPA that dumped 3 million gallons of orange water filled with mercury and arsenic into the Animas River. Also the same EPA that is being sued by the residents of Flint Michigan for staying silent about the lead problem

 

It's a lot more complex than that. Young radicals like Stephen Schneider and John Holdren made names for themselves pushing their calamitous theory. This gave them power. When the theory didn't plat out they went 'oops our bad aerosols are not well mixed' of course they had already acquired power. This same group them moved onto global warming. Having learned from their mistakes with global cooling they made predictions so far out in the future they couldnt be proven wrong in any reasonable time frame.

These radicals basically proved what someone in a lab coat and a theory that advances the leftists agenda can do with the support of the government and media.

 

The EPA wasn't silent. Flint Water Management Dropped the Ball. However maybe the EPA should have been watching.

Of course, neither you nor anybody can cite the law, theory, experiment demonstrating that aerosols shield incoming radiation during the day more that they shield outcoming radiation during the night.

Don't worry, 99% of scientists and 100% of posters support the insane idea that no physical law, not application of a physical theory, no experiment are needed to be sited.

Aerosols are not a source of heat, they are not a heat sink, they do not produce mechanical work;

Therefore you can change all atmosphere to 100% aerosol and provided that all other conditions remain equal the mean temperature of the earth will not change by a single degree.

You're just disagreeing to be obtuse. You know damn well that aerosols have a cooling effect. It's an experiment that's ran in real life multiple times per year with wildfire smoke or every few decades with volcanoes.

This is absolutely mind boggling. You systematically deny that anything can change the climate. I don't even know what your position is on climate change. You challenge global warming skeptics. You challenge global warming advocates. You say the study of climate change isn't even real. You challenge any scientific statement by denying all science. I honestly can't figure you out. I mean, how do you think the climate changed in the past? Do you even think the climate has changed in the past?

The evidence shows that particulate matter in the upper Atmosphere can reflect UV-A, UV-B, x-rays and gammas back into space resulting in a cooling effect. In the past, volcanic eruptions have ejected material into the upper Atmosphere resulting in periods of cooling.

 

well climate change is certainly real , the climate has been changing consonantly for millions of years. The only thing new is a bunch of slimy opportunists decided they could gain power and influence by peddling a snake oil cure for it.
