There was a thread on another forum that questioned whether Toast Hawaii and Pizza Hawaii (Hawaiian Pizza for English speakers) were racist. Cultural appropriation and all that.

Btw: When Clemens Wilmenrod invented "Toast Hawaii" nobody would have foreseen that "woke" people would ever ban the use of the name "Hawaii" because some think that this name was "racist".

I and several other made points about how Hawaii was not the origin place of pineapples to start with, not was either dish created in Hawaii. So no appropriation, unless you claim Hawaii also appropriated. Also since the use of the term was not derogatory it was not racists either.

The ironic thing was the poster, who didn't accept the premise of racism either, had picked up the premise from Europeans, specifically those in his country, Germany I believe.

There was also a lot confusion because many Americans couldn't comprehend that Pizza Hawaii and Hawaiian pizza are the same thing, and that the difference was a linguistics issue, where the other language puts the noun before the adjectives.

Well, Pizza Hawaii just means: Pizza à la mode Hawaii.
